Hello everyone,

thanks for whoever that will take the time to read my post and help me.
I got my very first Chanel (preloved) and I’m beyond excited. However, i would like to clean it and nourish it before using it, so it gets « new » to me.
I’ve read a lot of posts in here and used pure baby wipes in a corner toncleanbut I realize that the black color faded and the leather became dull in that portion of the bag.
My wipe came out colored, Is that normal? Does it mean that the previous owner colored the bag with some cheap black product to give it a « new » feeling?

btw, I have used baby wipes on my Chanel lamb skin black wallet and the color did not fade, but the bag…

here are pictures of the bag and baby wipe to illustrate.2359E2D5-DBCC-4279-94F8-4CAE2FA8F451.jpeg6192F859-CF9A-4F68-9063-1853D61D187F.jpeg

Try leather cream such as Cadillac Leather Conditioner to condition and buff to shine. The previous owner probably used something to make it look better.

I use baby wipe for quick fix (some dirt settled on some spots of the bag) but if I wanna nourish it, should use one with oil/moisturising ingredient aka those specially made for leather.

That aside, the colour transfer to the wipe looks like something was sitting on top of the leather.

Always use polishing cloth or clean cloth to clean. Some baby wipes has some chemicals that might strip off the colours. I use professional leather cleaner to remove dirt instead. If needed to, I will use black polish cream to restore the colour and then buff it with leather cream. Cadillac has a range of leather products which you can try. Though their coloured polish cream is made for shoes, it can be used on bags. Tested and it work really well. I've managed to use their black leather polish cream to restore and patch up scuffing areas on my vintage lambskin and caviar Chanel bags. Though it's not going to give me a deep pitch black like fresh out from oven, to me it's good enough because of the age of my bags. Saved me a couple of hundreds to send to bag spa for touch up which are expensive and they always pushed me to recolour the whole bag which I do not want to as I'd like to retain the patina look and shin on the leather. Once you recolour the bag, not only it will change the texture of the leather, it will somewhat destroy the patina that has been generated over the years. Another good leather product which I found is Saphir; heard a lot about them and raves by many Chanel owners who use their products especially their Renovateur cream. I've yet to try but have bought their premium beige polish cream to restore my beige caviar jumbo. Hopefully it will works.

Dis happened to my new vintage bag as well, I bought 2 of my black vintage bag from the same seller , the wipes has the same kind of black stain , I suspected they use a kind of leather balm on the bag . Some part of my bag turned into matte color now ,

I wiped down my caviar boy woc with a slightly damp cloth once (just water) and some of the dye did come off on the wipe from the edges. My woc was bought new so I know it wasn't treated by someone prior. So I would say that your bag probably wasn't treated or dyed by the prior owner either. I think most of what is on your wipe is just dirt though. Maybe you can use a leather conditioner to buff back the shine?
