I’ve fallen in love with the Tiffany Open Heart and would love to get one for my burthday next week, it’ll be a belated 40th birthday ( well, 41st!) and I’d love it to wear all the time and eventually give to my daughter .

I’ve decided on 16mm in gold or rose gold. Haven’t seen one in person as we are hundreds of miles from a Tiffany shop.
I like the idea of saving some money and buying pre loved but am worried about buying a non authentic piece :(.

I’ve spent hours and hours trying to look into it for signs but can’t come up with a great deal. Most sites on the internet seem to refer to fake silver items and lots of the ‘return to Tiffany’ pieces. Can’t find anything about hallmarks for gold open heart :(. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find info?

I posted a week ago on the ‘Authenticate this’ thread but have had no response.
The main thing I’ve noticed when looking at gold ones is the Elsa Peretti bit of the hallmark. Sometimes It looks like a fluid signature and on others it says ‘PERETTI’ in capitals. Have attached some photo examples. I’m wondering if the capitals are not real? Or perhaps they are just produced at a different time?

Any help/knowledge/advice much appreciated.

I guess if I can’t find anything out I may just go for a new rose gold one so I’m sure it’s really but it’s really quite a bit over budget :( ....may have to wait til my 42nd!
Thanks so much x

Can't answer about the lettering 'Peretti' part as I own a more recent version (got it about 2 years ago) but I did notice that the gold Tiffany items would have "Au" marked before the '750 Spain' as well - I attached a screenshot to what the current markings look like as they appear different to the one you posted. Not sure if this is another thing that was labeled differently over time. I have both the pendant with the necklace and the pendant part is a signature script whereas the necklace has an all-caps script for 'Peretti'. Was the all-caps script on the pendant?

If you're going to pre-loved, perhaps go with a shop that does provide authentication guarantee? It might be hitting you part way that it's not the best deal out there but would still provide you that piece of mind while not paying for full retail price.

I was looking at one from someone who says they only sell authentic Pre-loved Tiffany but as I’m clueless I really wouldn’t know so wanted to dig around a bit. Then when I started looking around I noticed the difference between the signature ‘Elsa Peretti’ and the capitals ‘PERETTI’ on the heart. Can’t seem to find out much about them!
That one was a 16mm gold and looks like this on the heart and the clasp...

I actually came to see if mine could be authenticated. Mine is Capitol PERETTI. After seeing some with signatures, I’m worried sick. Here’s what it looks like.

I have a YG open heart that's about 20 years old in the medium size and the hallmark looks like PrincessLIL's, including the signature in cursive script.

The photos of the hallmark in all capitals looks less refined. I doubt the hallmark is something the company would change?

Hi! I am not an expert, but I am a lover of Elsa Peretti pieces.

All of my Peretti pieces have the script logo, and it is stamped on the actual piece. The only exception is a Color By The Yard chain, and the Peretti stamp is in all caps. However, the stamp is on the chain clasp, not on the piece so that is very different than a stamp on the actual heart. If I had to guess, that heart is a fake and I would not risk it.

Tiffany is one of the most faked brands and I have heard stories of ladies going in to repair their piece only being told it’s a fake. For me, it’s not worth it. I would get a brand new piece from the boutique. They will have your piece on record and you will feel so at ease to take it in anytime to repairs or adjustments. Jewelry is emotional, and for me, knowing I purchased a brand new piece from the boutique is part of the mental enjoyment of ownership.

Hope that helps a bit.

I love Tiffany and my guess is this will not be your first piece, so I’d suggest get it from a store and enjoy the total pleasure of browsing, trying pieces on, and buying. Peretti pieces are my favorite. Clean, yet elegant and flowing.

Good luck!
