I'm trying to choose my first Rolex. I've decided that I definitely want a mens 36mm datejust bi metal and originally wanted it on an oyster strap with a smooth bezel but am now wondering whether I should have the jubilee with a fluted bezel?

The lady at Rolex in London told me that the oyster should be with the smooth bezel and the jubilee with the fluted bezel, not mixed ie: fluted bezel on Oyster strap.

Second question, I can only afford to have either a mother of pearl face or diamond markers. They are very similar in price. If I have the mother of pearl I can have gold Roman numerals and if I have diamonds I will have a plain white face.

I want a big, chunky watch that's modern and classic at the same time. It's difficult because in the watches and celebrities thread they all seem to have Daytona's which are too expensive!

Here are some photos, what shall I get??!!

I can't see any photos unfortunately.

I wear a Vintage Rolex and love it (looking for another one as well). In my opinion, if you want a truly classic Rolex, then I'd go with the fluted bezel/jubliee strap- it's SIGNATURE Rolex IMHO!

No matter what that AD said, both men and women sometimes choose fluted bezel paired with the Oyster, or the other way with the Jubilee and domed. It's about what you like.

However, when you say "modern," I think the domed bezel is more modern looking than the fluted. (I like the fluted better and consider it the ultra-Rolex look, but something to consider.)

PS I hope you've tried on the 36mm--it's big.
