The bags have arrived 🖤, and I'm finding it difficult to decide which one to keep since I like both styles equally. The wallet on the chain holds less, but its strap length suits my height perfectly (it sits a bit higher than the mini Lou), and I appreciate the elegant yet edgy look of the flap closure. On the other hand, the camera bag will accommodate all my essentials, and the leather feels luxurious, but I'm uncertain about the durability of its calfskin material. Interestingly, I've noticed minor chipping near the zipper pull of the mini Lou bag, despite it being brand new. I suppose this might be expected because it is coated with black paint. It doesn't bother me much as long as it stays this size.

I would love to know your opinion on these two bags. Which one is your favorite and why? 🖤

The Wallet-On-Chain (ask "WOC") is elegant and versatile. It looks like you can tuck the chain inside and also use it as a clutch. The Camera bag is fine, but to my eye not nearly as distinctive or interesting.

If you've never had a WOC, it's one of those bags that can go under a coat. I would think this would be an advantage to have it tucked away and out of sight, especially while walking around in London or other major cities.

I have the mini lou in pebbled leather (Dark Smog) and that little camera bag is my go to, all weather, indestructible bag. I like that it is empty inside so I can fit my items anyway I want.

I like the Wallet on Chain too, but I have opted to go for 2 clutches in Dark Beige and Black and do the conversion to add chains myself. I couldn't justify the price of the WOC, plus I like the one open compartment of the clutch. I'm going to a professional cobbler to add a D ring so I can attach the golden chains from Samara.

Between the two, they are very different style wise. WOC can be dressed up or down, whereas the mini lou is just causal. But with the division of the WOC, you can't fit much inside. Hence the dilemma.

Both are gorgeous! Keep both! Lol, no, no no, don't listen to me as I am forever on ban island. I say get whichever one you think you are more likely to use--but if you go with the mini lou see if you can exchange it for one without a hardware issue or one with grained leather since everybody says it is so hard wearing.

I would go for the WOC no doubt. For all the reasons already stated above, the grained leather is also more durable than calf skin. Its a more classic style that can be dressed up or down.

To be honest, I'd go for neither.

The WOC is beautiful and suits my personal aesthetic (which is more dressy). However, my experience with WOCs in general is that they don't fit enough for my daily needs (for more daily use). And everytime I buy one, it just ends up sitting on the shelf or in the closet neglected.
YSL treated grain de poudre leather is very durable but also very stiff. Most bags made with this type of leather will hold structure tremendously well but will basically not stretch.
(However, if you want this to be an evening event bag, then I think it is a good choice.)

Camera bags are not my aesthetic. Though I know many many people love their versatility, space, and more casual look.

Btw, black on black is an excellent choice regardless of the type of bag.
I have the medium black on black YSL envelope bag in grain de poudre and it has held up wonderfully. I bought it in 2017 and there is a bit of scuffing on the corners and minimal chips on the hardware.

Another thing to note is that YSL bags (except certain ones like the Sac De Jour) tend to run small.
I remember trying the small envelop on in-stores and was like, oh no, too small for me. That's why I went for the medium which is honestly not that big at all.

The grain de poudre will hold up much better. But if the WOC isn’t quite big enough I’d go up a size in the envelope bag, or even get the cassandra clutch and add a chain. It’s cheaper than the WOC and fits more imo.

I also really like the black hardware. I’m leaning towards the WOC because of the durable leather and versatility. I wish they hadn’t discontinued the older version of the Mini Lou.

Which one did you decide on OP?

I have decided to return both bags as I couldn't make up my mind. 😆 Both bags were lovely, but the Wallet on Chain was probably my favourite. However, it didn't fit much and its access was quite tricky. I'm trying out other bags from YSL to see if I like anything better. Thank you so much, everyone, for sharing your opinion. x
