Currently in France. I don’t know which one to get. YSL toy loulou 1550€ or LV micro Dauphine 1900€. I believe the VAT for France is 20% so if true that would make these $1 difference savings compared in US prices. Help, I can’t decide.

I vote for YSL. I have had the Dauphine in the bigger size and have sold it after a few months because the corners of the flap have rolled up. And I personally don't like bags with chains, I find it very uncomfortable. Good luck with your decision!

So I got the YSL but in all black

Thank you all so much!! Although I was taken aback in the VAT return. All the websites I had seen said France was 20%. So I was banking on that. But it’s actually only 12%. Boo! Oh well.

So make sure when you go to shop at any stores that you bring your passport. Let them know you need a VAT form. Basically the price includes tax (so in the US the price of an item is $200 but you still have to add tax when you check out. Well in europe it’s $200 total including their tax) Because you are not a European citizen, you don’t have to pay their tax so you get a refund back. For France it’s 12%, so you’d get back $24. But only after submitting the form back at customs at the airport. So take 12% off any price you’re given and that’s what you will be paying. Also opt to pay in Euros on a credit card not USD as it will be cheaper. So for the YSL I was charged USD $1654.57 with the conversion rate for using a credit card that has no foreign transaction fee. Had I had actual euro dollars, I would have just paid 1550€ but i didn’t have that much cash. If I would have opted for USD pricing it would have been around USD $1784 ish.

Thanks. Do you know if there's a limit to this? Like I know if I order a handbag online from another country and it's under $800 I don't just any customs duties but if over $800 exemption then I do.

From what I understand, the $800 exemption comes into play when you come back to the States and have to declare your purchases at customs.
