Please help me decide: Chanel or YSL

Hi all!

I'm new to luxury handbags and have been stalking this forum for a while now. I think I am finally ready to make my first purchase and treat myself for finishing my honours degree at university. I'm looking for a mini bag that I can use on a daily basis and will still love a few years down the track. My budget is arounf $1500-2000. I am currently debating between a Saint Laurent Toy Loulou in black with silver hardware (AUD1560) or a vintage Chanel Mini Square that is also black with silver hardware (AUD1800). The Chanel Mini does have some wear and tear and I would rate its condition a 6/10. I have images attached of the specific Chanel Mini I might get and the YSL Loulou. I am also open to suggestions. Please help me decide!

Tough choice. Both are classy, elegant looking bags.
As a brand, Chanel has better resale value (not that it should matter but some people care if they want to eventually sell it/trade up). However, I think for the price you should get a Chanel in better condition. I don't think I would buy something in a 6/10 condition. Between the two bags you listed, I prefer the YSL. Good Luck!

I'd go with Chanel. It's timeless!
I would not buy from IG though. I would go through a reputable reseller. There's just too much risky business out there and so many super fakes.

Totally agree. Would usually opt for chanel. Not in this case. If you can find a better condition chanel, go for chanel. If not, the new YSL wins, IMO. Congrats on your achievement!

I agree with the others. I would find a Chanel in better shape. I like the look of the Toy LouLou and I almost bought one myself, but I kept coming across reviews commenting on quality issues (especially with the strap). Maybe it was a fluke, but it scared me away.

Mmmm yeah I can see your logic with the Chanel and I think if it was in a better condition I wouldn't have hesitated to buy it. I can always continue saving to get a new Chanel one day. Will be going with the YSL because I found that Net-A-Porter has 15% off the Toy Loulou. The recent quality issues of YSL are a little worrying but I haven't heard too much about the Loulou model so fingers crossed! Thank you all for helping me decide :)
