Hi there,

It all started a little while ago when our home was broken into and all my jewellery was taken...it makes me sick in the stomach and brings me to tears to even talk about this ~ as i lost everything!!

DH and i went into Tiffany & Co today and had a look at some rings ~ 2 carat brilliant cut Solitaire and a claw set half diamond celebration ring both set in Platinum to be exact, absolutely stunning! but my dilemma is that i have always worn yellow gold and will continue to do so in the future ~ i just purchased a Black Chanel J12 with rose gold.

My question is would it look odd if i purchased my new E & W ring in platinum if all other jewellery will be purchased in yellow gold or shoud l have the rings ordered in yellow gold with the diamonds set in Platinum??? I am really confused on this and would love everyones opinions...TIA

My engagement and wedding band are both platinum, but lately I've been really into wearing yellow gold. I still wear my platinum with my VCA--BUT, I'm ok with mixing metals. I wear a Cartier trinity ring that sort of pulls it all together. I think the platinum is so classic.

i don't think it would look odd at all. my e-ring and wedding bands are WG and platinum, and i wear my cartier LOVE bangle with it everyday (obviously since i never take it off), which is RG.

i think nowadays it has become more commonplace and acceptable to mix metals.

I would go with platinum, I've always worn Wg, platinum & silver, all watches are Ss & I have just purchased a yg Cartier love bangle & yg Chopard ring both of which I wear on my right hand, but I don't normally mix but I think it looks ok, a lot of people do it nowadays.

I would go with platinum as well. I am personally not a fan of diamonds set in yellow gold and I almost don't consider it "mixing metals" when it is just your wedding set that is the one that doesn't match. My e-ring and wedding band are both white gold and I mainly wear white gold but sometimes I wear yellow gold jewelry and don't find it a problem at all.

I think some pieces look better in yg and some (especially those with diamonds) look better in platinum.
Since my er is platinum, when I wear the pieces that I feel look better in yg, I have to mix metals... It used to make me feel very uncomfortable but I 'm getting over it.:p

UPDATE.....thanks ladies again, i went in with dh yesterday and tried both on and i have chosen platinum ~ the rings just seemed to have more sparkle and didn't compete with the platinum setting as i found them to do with the gold. I tried on a tiffany classic 2 carat brilliant solitaire and 2 x 2.2 shared setting bands...OMG...they are TDF!!
