Hi All,

My SA called and was kind enough to set aside a P22 in Gold or Etoupe in PHW coming in next week's delivery.
My original request is a P22 in Bleu Nuit however I mentioned that I was open to neutrals other than black.
I'm leaning towards Gold at the moment but Etoupe is also growing on me.
Originally, I did not like Etoupe because the colour looked like a muddy brown.
But something clicked when a friend referred Etoupe as an "Elephant Grey".
Ever since then, I've been considering Etoupe more and more because it's such a unique H colour.
I've attached screenshot of Gold vs Etoupe from youtube and drooled over all the photos on Ode to Picotin.
If you were me, which would you choose?
For reference, I am Male 5'8",average build, warm complexion (Malaysian/Filipino tan skin tone)
I dress pretty casual every day (think jeans, t-shirt, sneakers).
Feel free to share pictures if you have any picos in your collection.
Thank you for your input.

Both colours are great classics that go with everything. I am bias as I love Hermes gold especially in the clemense leather. My favourite bag is my gold bolide with PHW. Good luck with your decision.

Thank you for your reply. Bolide is so understated and classic!
How do you feel about PHW on your gold Bolide?
The consensus seems like gold on gold is more popular.
But gold with phw seems to make the bag a bit more casual?

I love the PHW on all my Hermes. You are right it looks more casual and IMO fresh and modern. I have a pretty casual life style and it fits me better. The gold is a gorgeous colour in the leather and a classic that will never be dated. Whichever you choose you have to post a picture.

Take a look at both, my concern with Etoupe is the color can vary yearly and sometimes it runs more on the gray side and others decidedly run more brown. If one of them speaks to you, great. Otherwise, don’t accept just for the sake of getting a bag. If your heart wants Bleu Nuit, it might be worth waiting until one comes along.

I did see on an Etoupe Bastia in Epsom and passed because the colour ran more brown than what I'd prefer.
I will look at both and interested to see if Etoupe looks different in Clemence.
Great point! definitely won't accept if none of them speaks to me.
I'm just not sure if Bleu Nuit is in production for Picotins atm hence why I'm considering these 2 neutrals.
Only one I've come across online recently are the tri-coloured P with BN/Noir/Bleu Frida.
Thanks for your advice.

Most definitely watch this space!
On another note, she also offered me a Rodeo in SO Pink (Rose Mexico).
As if it's not hard enough to decide on a Pico, she has to throw another spanner in the works.
Decisions decisions...

I love all three colours, but as the Picotin is a "slouchy" bag, and as you say Etoupe can look muddy, I personally wouldn't pick Etoupe due to concerns about how the bag could look aged quite quickly... Unless it was your favourite colour of course! But doesn't sound like this is the case.

Between the other two, I also haven't seen any dark blue Picotins, so you may be waiting a while. If you're happy to wait, then pass on the Gold, but if you don't want to take the risk, then I think the Gold would be a fantastic choice!!

Hope this helps!

Love how you put it and I think you're right!
Deep down, I know Etoupe is not my favourite colour, but I do appreciate its versatility.
I will go into the appointment with the mindset of picking Gold unless I get a strong reaction from seeing Etoupe in person.
Gold was always my second preference after BN anyway. I can see myself owning both colours in some shape or form.
Only reason I'm quite fixated on BN is because it holds a sentimental value for me.
I managed to secure an appointment at FSH when I was in Paris a couple years back for my birthday.
I was offered an Evelyne 33 in BN (my exact request) but decided to pass on it because I thought it was better to have a good holiday than using the majority of my funds towards the bag. I purchased a Calvi instead to commemorate the trip.
I'm now in a better position financially and ever since then, I've been trying to add something in BN to my small but growing collection.
I live in Australia and we get nowhere near the amount of inventory as EU/US market (we have 4 stores for the whole country!).
I'll ask my SA what's the likelihood of getting a dark blue Picotins and take it from there.
Sorry for the long ramble. Thank you for your insights!

Ooh thank you for this. I just returned a Bolide that I had mistakenly gotten w PHW not realizing it was not GHW and that’s exactly the impression I had as I was holding it up to different items in my closet. It was beautiful (of course) but w the PHW it just looked to casual for what I wanted. This was in Trench, but same sentiment.

I have a gold bolide with PHW which I wanted and really love, but I agree, for some reason the PHW makes the bag appear much more casual. For a more formal and dressier look definitely go for GHW. Both are stunning.

I love the PHW with the gold bolide, but I was after a more casual look as it suits my lifestyle. Definitely the GHW gives an entirely different dressier more formal feel. I love both looks.

I love the feedback! I did return the Trench Bolide w PHW but I’m wishing now I would have given myself a little more time to live w it and decide rather than immediately sending back. I don’t have any stores here so have to do all shopping online. Always had my heart set on GHW so getting palladium was a disappointment bu honestly I can see myself ordering again at some point but maybe w a different color leather. The PHW certainly can look very dressed up too - it just wasn’t what I was looking for in that combo but I’m thinking in one of the other colors it would be stunning. Reminding myself that just wasn’t my bag and mine will come :)
