Does anyone have recommendations for a good work bag? Needs to hold a small laptop and some papers, but that's about it. Also I take public transit so preferably something secure (not open tote). Lmk what you like best about your work bag!! Thanks!

Many of the larger bags would be open tote, or partial close, I have some that are large totes that would fit a laptop [depending on size] would be Gucci Lady Lock tote, and Gucci Lady Buckle both have a strap that goes over the top. I also like the Gucci Bright Diamante Top Handle Bag.

Hello! I recently bought a Coach Borough (large) for my laptop, etc. It's a great bag but can get a little heavy. Then again, I walk ~15 minutes to work and carry my laptop, a book and lunch, so I really overstuffed the bag, haha. There are different versions of the borough, some with zips, some without. The version I got (soft nappa) has a middle zipper compartment but none on the other two compartments. It's still very secure if I make sure my wallet is in the zipped area.

I also use a large Longchamp le pliage (with bag organizer) and that works amazingly well. It's super light, durable and comfortable to use.

You didn't say how much you want to spend, or if you prefer shoulder or crossbody, but a good crossbody option is the Mulberry Alexa (regular or oversize), and a good shoulder option is the Proenza Schouler PS1 (small carryall, medium, or tote)

If you don't like tote bags, maybe a bagpack will suit to you. Like this one:
