Penrose Collection

I see a few bags from this collection have popped up on ILD. I went to Dooney.com, and here's the collection. There isn't much info on the leather; aside from "Rich, smooth Italian leather makes our Penrose Collection as sophisticated as it is sleek."

I was looking at the satchel, and the leather looks pretty thick.

Does anyone have a bag from this collection, and would share their thoughts on it?
I'm not familiar with this collection, but I did notice the green suede collar under the zipper and backing on the tassels. Also, the product care description sounds similar to
the one for Florentine leather. in many ways.

I remember these from 30 years ago and they are very thick and fabulous. I always loved the big duck.

Dooney sometimes uses a name to describe a leather/treatment and sometimes
to describe a style/collection. And sometimes there is overlap. Add to that
some leather descriptions are generic (like pebbled, or Italian, or European,
or even Vachetta) because they include a lot of different leathers, treatments, etc.)
Mix in the marketing language, and it's really confusing if you want to understand
the details and the differences.
I'm guessing it only matters to a few of us nerds and collectors.

Some of the older leathers have me stumped as there’s no mention of those collections today. The Raleigh and samba leathers have confused me. Are they Florentine? The Raleigh leather has green suede like Florentine but it looks pebbled. The Toledo leather also, is it Florentine? It’s got a beautiful shine and color saturation. It’s also super thick thick and heavy but so beautiful. I love that dooney has so many leathers to choose from.

Samba name was used for a leather and also I think for a collection,
at different times.
The Samba leather was a very soft pebbled leather. They used it for the
small Florentine style satchel, but it wasn't called Florentine, because it
was not. Many of those Samba Flo style satchels were Made in USA.

I think the Samba collection used a different leather and I know the styles
were very different too. I think the Samba collection has a metal
heart shaped lock hanging from the front of the bags.

So apparently Raleigh leather is flat and pebbled, does better in the rain than Florentine leather, and had the same green suede as Florentine. Fb group was discussing it.

“Raleigh has a flat, even pebble all over. Also inside the bag where there is a Dooney label. On the Florentine bags it is embossed and on the Raleigh bags it is painted in gold. Both have the leather patch, green suede collar, and red interior.”

Thanks for the info. Can we assume that the pebbling is an embossing,
like on generic pebbled leather, as opposed to 'organic' like on Florentine
or created by shrinking the leather as on original AWL?

Welp, the Penrose is a big fat nope for me. I was at the outlet and saw them there. I pressed on the bag and saw these creases. It was extremely light, but the leather felt very cheap.

I’m wondering if there is a difference between purchasing it at the outlet versus D&B. Because the strap wasn’t the same that they offer online.

That bag looks like it has big stains on it. Was that just lighting and shadows?
In any case, thanks for your review of the leather. We can cross it off the
wish list. Bags at outlet should be the same as online unless they
are clearance or samples.

That’s lighting and shadows from my phone. This bag was in the front of the store. The strap is much different than the equestrian one on Dooney.com. Or possibly the older model.
