Hi all

So I've decided that I want a new pendant for my birthday, as I don't have anything currently which I like to ear on a daily basis. So I want to get something that I can wear everyday. I'm going to have my lovely jeweler custom make whatever I choose. I'll be paying for the bulk of the piece with my family gifting me money toward it.

I've got it narrowed down to either a Sapphire pendant, or a Diamond solitaire pendant.

For the Sapphire one I have already seen the stone, when I was getting a quote for a Sapphire ring (which I didn't end up getting, as I was told I would more than likely inherit my grandmothers sapphire ring one day, and the one I was going to have made was basically a copy of that anyways). It's a really stunning Ceylon Sappire, probably around 1ct. I'm thinking the pendant might look something like this:

For the diamond I'd probably go with a princess cut solitaire, something very simple and plain. I'd be looking at about 0.5ct for this one, just because of the price. Something like this:

Which do you think is nicer? I am planning to wear this as an everyday piece for a long time to come.

Wow! Both these pendants are absolutely stunning.

The diamond pendant is gorgeous. I would get the diamond pendant as an everyday necklace because it will match every outfit you wear. The sapphire which is beautiful can be limiting. Maybe wait until you inherit your grandmother's ring so the jeweler can give suggestions for a complimentary match. I wear my 1 ct pendant 24/7 unless I'm changing to a fancier necklace.

That's a good point, though I can't really think of an outfit if mine that the sapphire would clash with. My mum thinks I should have a diamond too, but I'd still like to see the mock up of the sapphire. In the end it will also depend on the prices I am quoted. I know last time I spoke to my jeweler he quoted me $600 for the sapphire itself.

I think the diamond would show up more. And I love blue and am not fond of diamonds. But I would get the diamond, for the sparkle.

A sapphire is much more subdued.

I went to my jeweler yesterday, and I've chosen the sapphire, partially because I really love it and partially because the price of the diamond I wanted would be too much for me.

Went to my jeweler and the decided on the Sapphire. So excited, but I changed the design so that it's slightly plainer, the sapphire will be in a 4 claw setting with a couple of small diamonds in the shackle, to give it a bit of sparkle but not detract from the lovely sapphire which is the star of the piece

Hi all

A while ago I posted about getting a sapphire pendant made. I thought I'd post an update, I got it made by my local jeweler and picked it up a couple of weeks ago.

Ceylon sapphire in 18 carat white gold with diamonds in the shackle. I'm really pleased with how it turned out.
