I have these 16" graduated pearl strand necklace that I'm afraid to wear. In the past, I have it restrung every 3 years or whenever the string gets dirty. Otherwise, it doesn't look good, kwim. And each time, the jeweler messed up by not properly grouping the pearls according to size and had to be restrung again until it came out perfect. Just a hassle. So now that I got my strand back, I'm afraid to use it, unless there's a way to maintain it without the hassle of restringing it every now and then. Any tips would be appreciated.

TIA!

I really don't think that it should have to restrung every three years. When you are having them restrung, they are putting knots between each pearl, right? That will prevent them from all falling IF your necklace actually breaks.
I've had my pearls for many years and the string is still pristine. Pearls are the last thing I put on and the first thing I take off when I wear them. HTH! :)

BurberryPrncess, I don't know too much about pearls, but I also get mine restrung whenever they look dirty which is not all that often since I do not wear mine every day. Might I suggest that you find a different jeweler to restring your pearls? I always go to XIV Karats in Beverly Hills and they do excellent and fast repair work, including pearls. Maybe they will be able to restring a graduated necklace without messing it up? That way, it wouldn't be such a hassle to get your pearls restrung and you can wear them without worry!

Kitsunegrl, yes they do put knots between each pear. I guess I wear mine at least 2x a week, so they get dirty after 3 years, plus it's warm here in the summer. Maybe I should not wear mine so often.

Elle tee, thanks for the recommendation. Since I live in LA and Beverly Hils is not far from me, I'll give them a try. Yeah, my jeweler, although great with diamonds and gems, is not great with pearls. I stayed with him because he's a friend of the family and he's honest. Yeah, I have to argue with him after he restrings it. He claims they are perfect and placed according to size, but not according to my eyes.

...or maybe I should find another strand without graduated pearls. It so happens that my culture pearl strand (a Mikimoto inherited from my grandma) is graduated pearls and my Chanel, which I haven't used and faux pearl, is also graduated with 2 CC logos. I think it's time for a different look.

Since your pearl strand is Mikimoto, why don't you take it to them for restringing? In California, they have a boutique in Beverly Hills and Costa Mesa. After restringing, you also get this cloth to wipe and clean pearls after each use.

I had the crystal strass and pearl necklace and the crystals have fallen out within one hour of wear, they replaced it , but they also said it will def happen again. Sad huh. LOL
