Hi everyone

I have been reading threads about protecting mono straps with a protectant. I have a new mono bag coming and am thinking of doing this. Will a protectant stop the patina? I love the midway creamy patina.

I just wanted to clarify this before putting it on my straps :)

What is the best product to put on them and is there anything found locally in Australia

Thank you

I use the apple guarde protectant for my Artsy handle. I bought it preowned so I don't know if it was treated from the previous owner , but I treated before I used it and the patina hasn't changed much.
What I do is every 2 months I wipe it with an alcohol free baby wipe ,let it dry ,and spray the handle. Do it in a well ventilated area ( I do it outside ) bc it smells .
Hope that helps .

I have no experience with this, but I've actually read that products seem to prematurely darken the vachetta on LV bags. I'm not sure whether or not that's the case with all of the protectant products, but it's kind of scared me away from trying them.

I would love to find a product that prevents patina, or that really slows it down.

I do want it to patina but protect it from stains :) Im looking at the LMB products and they say that they still allow the straps to patina.

However then i think maybe i should leave it and allow it to age like they are meant to and look at it as the bags character!

Hi - nothing stops the patina, but I use the protectant spray to stop water marks and dirt marks. You can get Kiwi Spray in Australia (should be in most Coles / Woolworths or even Mathers shoe stores). I used 3 coats of spray on the vachetta leather only.

I have a leather cleaner/spot remover that cleans the leather all the way back to the white color it is when it's new I love it. It doesn't dry or ruin the vachetta it is an amazing product.

There is a huge thread in the Louis Vuitton FAQ's forum on cleaning and protecting leather as well as patina/vacchetta questions. It's all been discussed and answered.

Bjtaylor02, a fellow tPF member has also done a few great YouTube comparison videos on protecting vacchetta. Search for her on YouTube.

Yes I have read that section but wasn't sure if the protectant stopped the straps "patina'ing" which i didn't want to happen. I will do a search on you tube, thank you.

Yes, do tell!!!! :graucho:

It's called Dyo Spot remover it's for leather and you put a little bit on a soft foam sponge not a magic eraser. You lightly rub it over the leather and I mean lightly and it turns the leather dark but don't panic. When it drys in about fifteen minutes it is amazing. I went to a shoe and bag repair store and the gentleman said let my clean your handles I gasped and was like ok and was panicking he was going to ruin it but he assured me he has a lot of clients with LV's and after that I was completely shocked my dirty handles were clean and the leather was white like new. I bought a bottle and got melatonin cream leather balm and I cannot tell you how amazing this all works.

This is the first I've heard of this product. Thanks for the idea.

I looked up the Dyo and it is specifically for oil based stains and adhesive. While it sounds amazing, I would be afraid to use it on vachetta that is relatively clean simply to bring it back to the new vachetta stage of color versus to remove oils from the handles, etc.
