I never really abused this bag. I did use it regularly when it first came out. Well I began using it again two months ago for a week then put it away.

Took it out today and noticed black flakes in my drawer and noticed that the patent leather is peeling off (the top layer) as well as coming off in chunks horribly.

So I've pretty much sworn off patent leather for good at this point. Is there any way I can save this? I called Coach and they said all they would do is probably send me a 40% off letter but I would have to pay $25 for them to send it off.

I want it fixed! Is it a goner by this point?

I doubt that they can fix it. Take it into a Coach store and ask them to send it in, they should waive the shipping charge for you. The 40% off letter is not a bad deal, depending on what other bag one buys.

Go into a store if you can and let them know you've been a good customer and request that they waive the shipping. The problem is that since the turnaround time is so fast in the world of designer leather goods, they probably will not be able to repair it since they no longer have access to the leather so the best case scenario is that they compensate you somehow. I have several coach patent bags and none has done this. I don't wear them daily but I do use them for periods of time. Good luck. I have only once received a 40% letter and was rather pleased. It was an opportunity to get a new piece for almost half price. With the new Fall line coming, your timing might be good. Just sorry you had to go through this.

I have to agree that it is probably a 40% off deal. I just hope they haven't changed the policy or imposed restrictions with their new business model

I would take it in ASAP. I had this happen once with my teal Gigi and I was bummed about the bag, but the 40% did take some of the sting out of it.

Good luck.

well i took it in and was charged the fee. i asked about waiving it and the woman told me that they do occasionally waive it but it is up to the discretion of the associate.

i probably will be a 40% off letter. so disappointed. i wish these bags in plain leather existed :-\

That SA was not very accommodating. The $25 is supposed to be for shipping, and she should have known that they will not be shipping it back to you, and that it doesn't cost $25 to ship the bag to Coach and mail a letter back to you.

I hope you find a friendlier store when you go in to use your 40% off letter.

So sorry to hear about your bag. I have a few patent bags including one that I wore all the time in college to parties and concerts and it still looks brand new almost 10 years later.

What are the restrictions for the 40% off letter typically? Is it only good on one bag?

she said she'd help me when I got my bag back :eyeroll:

whatever. i'm going to a different store. she said that it was an "inspection" fee. whatever. :dahand:

They still give you your bag back too! Give them a call when you get your letter.

And to be honest, I see this happen with patent leather straps all the time, in every brand. Whenever someone says they have a bag with them that stay in great condition Im always so confused because I have never had any luck with any bag with patent leather straps.
