I have an AW Diego in black patent leather which was a colour from around 2010 (I think). Anyway, I adore my bag and have carried it almost every day since I purchased it. BUT, I have learnt the hard way that patent leather does not age well! It has split and is peeling in places. I am reluctant to sell since I will probably get next to nothing for it given its tatty state. I really wish I had purchased it in black leather that would have aged well, and I am even considering getting my Tang Diego professionally dyed black.

Does anyone have any advice on how to repair patent leather? Or is it possible to peel the patent off altogether to reveal the leather underneath?

Anyone?

I have just bought a Diego in black leather, so saving my patent one is less of a worry now. Hopefully the leather Diego will age better.

Whilst trying to buy a new Diego I realised how difficult it is to buy a Diego in soft pebble i.e. calf leather. The pebbled lamb skin really predominates. I finally managed to track down a calf skin though (in the sale too :yahoo:) . I think I am in the minority preferring the calf skin, but I have always found it more classic looking.

If anyone have advice on patent leather, I would still love to hear. I am not quite ready to part with my patent Diego just yet !

such a shame. mine did the same thing. I ended up selling it for next to nothing on evil bay. :( I wonder if you could take it a a cobbler and see if they have any suggestions. I think patent is pretty hard to repair tho.

Oh no. That is so sad that you sold it on ebay for next to nothing. I was considering selling mine on ebay, but I don't think I will bother now. I did contact the Handbag Clinic, but they said that patent leather is really difficult to salvage.
