I'm torn, and would love to hear opinions, especially from anyone who has both. I'd like something with a little more room than the City, and I'd also LOVE the option to sling the bag over my shoulder with the top-handles (not the long strap). Do any of you carry your Part-Times and/or Velos this way? According to the Barney's site, the Part-Time's handle drop is 5.5 inches and the Velo's is 5 inches, so they both have more clearance than the City (4 inches). I think I like how the Part-Time looks more, but I do love that the Velo has the cross-body option, which would make it a great weekend/travel bag . . . Ugh. Thoughts?

I'd also love to see mod shots of either/both. I looked through the clubhouses and reference libraries and didn't see very many. I'm a little worried that the Velo will slouch too much.

TIA!

Until I got my Velo, I loved the idea of the PT and I was determined to add it to my lonely G21 City. However, when I tried on a Velo in store, I was absolutely hooked. It does look more boxy than the City and PT but if carried by the long strap, it takes on a more slouchy, hobo type shape. I'm not slim enough to carry the Velo on the shoulder by the handles but this could easily done if you're slim or petite, say a UK size 10 and under. If you're any larger than that then it is still possible but the bag will be tightly nestled right in your armpit!

I also fell out of love with the PT when they discontinued G21. Personally I found it looked so much better with the larger hardware but only that particular style. I've warmed to the G12 on other styles and my Velo is a G12 Dark Night with RGGH.

I don't have a PT but I do have a Velo and love the cross body option. It's quite roomy, too. The short handles do not comfortably fit over my shoulder, but I mostly use this bag cross body. I do want a PT though, too.....probably will be my next purchase.

Velo looks good on the pic but it really hurts in the shoulder if u use it for a long time. The strap cannot be adjusted and it is long so it tends to be a pain in the shoulder. I prefer the part time. Which i just got today :)

I don't have a Velo yet (I always end up going for the Part Time and am able to wear the handles on my shoulders with light-weight jackets), but I bookmarked some mod shots when I was trying to decide if I wanted a Velo…

Don't know if you like the Maxi Twiggy, but I know the handle drops on those are a little bit longer than Velo's and Part Time's…

I too would love to see other mod shots!

Good luck with your decision, serenityneow :smile1:

Ugh - I just noticed that tPF app opens my links of "wearing your bbags" to the same page even though they're different posts; if you want to see the different pics, open the links in your desktop browser - sorry :(

Wow, thanks all (especially lesAdrets!). This is all immensely helpful. I thought about it a lot and spent some time with a Velo at Neiman's this weekend, and think I may end up with neither. I love my Town and City, but I''m looking for fall and think I want something more structured. This might be blasphemy on the Bal forum, but I think I like Bal more for spring and summer than fall and winter . . .

Who knows. Maybe I'll change my mind.

I want to design my own Bal. Still East-West like the City, but a little taller, with a 6" or 7" handle drop, a crossbody strap, and in Hamilton leather :). Oh, and in a deep berry or metallic purple with G12 nickel hardware :).

Yes - this! I would love this Bal! And no, not blasphemy at all - the Hamilton collections are what brought me back to Bal ;)

Gosh I'll have to stalk you all over the forums now to see what you end up buying :)

Ha! At the moment I'm in love with the Fendi 2jours and the Gucci soft stirrup hobo. These are both very different from Bal, and very different from each other. Of course, they are both also quite expensive. Expensive taste seems to be my only constant - sigh.

I was thinking about getting a velo this weekend & found this interesting because for me the long strap was one of the big draws! What do other velo owners think about the strap over time? Too long/uncomfortable?

I LOVE my velo! Can't wait to get more! I don't use the long strap as much as I anticipated. I usually double loop the long strap and it becomes the perfect shoulder bag! Velo really is the perfect size. Even trying on part time in stores the extreme east/west style was uncomfortable to me. I would be bumping into everything and everyone if I tried to carry that bag!

Maybe it depends on your height and where it sits on each person. Will have to take one for a test drive this weekend and see for myself!

I highly recommend it!!
Yeah, after my post above about deciding to go with something else, I ended up buying a Velo after all. I spent a lot of time reading peoples' testimonials about how great it is, and I like how it looks (on me at least) more than the Part-Time. I do still want a structured bag for fall, but I know I'm going to get a lot of use out of the Velo. I'll use it on work days when I need to carry a lot (I have a lot of those) and I'll also use it for travel and weekends.

Plus, I got a great deal on a color/hardware combo I'm really excited about--Cassis/G12 silver :). I'll post pictures when I get it!

Also, Skyeboat, I believe the newer versions (beginning in 2012, maybe?) have adjustable cross-body straps.

How exciting, congrats serenityneow!

Thanks for pointing that out about the adjustable strap - will check that out. I'm thinking of buying the arena 12 velo - black with GHW in case anyone has any thoughts to add. Will report back :)
