Hello everyone!

I did a search and I saw some posts back in 2014 and 2105 about what one can buy while in Paris. I thought I'll post another question on something similar. Heading there soon and wondering what the best brands I should be looking at. I saw Chanel is a good one. I would like to consider all of the best brands, but I'm not really sure which. Also, would there be good sales/places to visit in Paris around that time for designer goods?

Thanks so much!

Are you looking for clothing, bags, or footwear? Your best bet is to buy French when in Paris. Try: Hermès, Moynat, Chanel, Dior, YSL, Louis Vuitton for bags.
As for sales, they occur twice a year in France: January and June-July. Unfortunately, you'll be there at the height of the new season, so no sales.
Enjoy your trip!

I was thinking mostly bags. Thanks for the info!!

As for where to buy designer handbags in Paris, on a short visit (2-3 days), IMO your best bet is a department store, where you'll see boutiques for all the French handbag makers except Hermès. Be aware that there could be line-ups to get into the designer spaces, so going early in the day is a good idea. The 3 big stores are Galeries Lafayette and Au Printemps, located on the Right Bank behind the Opera, just a couple blocks from each other, and Le Bon Marché on the Left Bank in the St-Germain-des-Prés area. My personal favourite is Le Bon Marché because it is smaller, less crowded, and has more carefully edited merchandise. Most shops in Paris offer a refund of a portion of the VAT for non-EU residents, resulting in at least a 10% discount to you. Called the détaxe, you claim it at the airport when leaving the country, after having filled out the proper forms at the time of your purchases.

If you have more time, you could visit the flagship stores for each of the designers.

To prepare in advance, consider visiting the websites of your preferred makers to narrow down what styles you like, and of course search tPF for all kinds of great info.

You could also consider making an appointment with a personal shopper at one of the department stores to help you navigate the store and make your selections.

Good luck!
