Paris Handbag Suggestions Needed

I will be traveling to Paris in April and would like to purchase a handbag made in and/or designed in France.

My budget is $1000.
Small-medium size, shoulder or crossbody.
My style is casual, classic, primarily black, bit edgy.

The only bag that I've come up with is the Louis Vuitton larger Pochette in monogram or black epi leather.

I've looked at other designers and they are out of my price range. Is there a French brand that is the same price point as Coach?

Longchamp! Totally French and totally lovely. Their leather bags are sublime, I have a few and the quality is great. Also, very simple and stylish.

Also, Louis Vuitton is cheaper in Paris than the US so if really really wanted an LV check out the prices on their their France site. You will also get 13% VAT back.

Now that I have bought an LV in Paris it is hard to pay the price for one here.

I really like the Longchamp leather bags also. I went with LV because of the savings but did get myself a Longchamp Eiffel Tower bag.
