Hi all,
hope I'm posting this in the right section.
A quick question as I love this style and have just purchased a pre-loved 40cm one.
Was this a Margiela or JPG designed bag?
and when was it discontinued? I've seen newer PM versions but all the larger ones seem at least 10years old.
Once I have my new girl I'll post a pic in the relevant photo of bag section but meanwhile I'd like to learn a little about the background and when it was first shown
Thank you in advance for any responses-I couldn't find the answer on here myself hence the question

MM 1997-2003

I've found sources which says the bag was created in 2008 (I'm sure you found it too) it seems they've copied each other but that's rot, joined tPF 2009 and PB was an established bag (see to reference section pics on there 2007).

Hermes in Vogue ad early 2006 (cross posted from an old thread) so most likely a JPG bag from mid-00s

I vaguely vaguely remember reading a piece about the creative director of Moynat (now that I think about it, it was because there was a Moynat thread here on this forum that spiked my interest in researching that brand!) - who joined them after being assistant to both MM and JPG at Hermes - and he helped create the Bombay in 2006. IIRC he's Indian and drew inspiration from his background, hence the bag name Bombay

Oh wow - I am a huge Moynat fan too and didn't realize that Ramesh was the designer of this bag. Here's a nice background piece:

Thanks for the insight!!

That makes perfect sense!
he's a brilliant designer and I always wondered about the name for this bag as it made no real sense with the Doctors bag style.
Thank you so much for your responses!
