Hello
I am in a very torn situation and hesitate very much what to do next. I found a paradise bird ring in a second hand jeweler : they have all the papers and my SA confirmed the serial number to be legit. The only down side is the size : I need 2 sizes more which the jeweler that sells the ring can do for free. They are sure that they won’t touch the engraving and that the diamonds on the side of the ring won’t move after the size change. I personally don’t care so much if I loose one diamond on the side (not the entire ring is paved with diamonds, only a little part of both sides on the top). I asked my SA and the VCA Atelier answered they cannot do it because of the diamonds on the side and that it then could get a diamond loose so could fall. They then refuse to change the size (non consideration decision). I would be happy to take responsibility for that but it is a clear NO from VCA.
Then I am completely torn. This ring is really such a piece I find it is a work of art and something that I would likely regret if I don’t find another one in my size.
What do you reckon ? Would you go ahead and still buy a piece that will no longer be recognized as a VCA piece because of the change of size ? I don’t intend to sell my jewelry for the next 20 years. But in terms of value you cannot sell this piece after changing the size in the future.
I made a deposit for this ring and wait a few days to think about it as the deposit is refundable…
Thanks for sharing what you would do !

I ran off and googled and I think I found even the one that you reserved lol.

Two sizes isn’t that big a deal. The stamps are off to the side so they shouldn’t be impacted and the side diamonds do not come down far enough to be harmed.

I think if I loved it this much I would go for it. I would get the jeweller to warranty the work in case there is an issue with the diamonds coming loose and ask them to check them carefully. They seem to have a good reputation. (Interesting though, on their site they say it cannot be resized)

It would be worth it to me because this is a piece I would treasure and not sell. Although, I’m suspect you could still sell it in the future, even with the work done. Just keep your documentation of the size change. And I doubt there will be a ton coming on the market. This is a rarer piece, it seems.

I would not because a change could potentially distort the ring and I would not want to lose a stone. If it were too big you could put on a plastic sizers but when it’s too small then you have fewer options. But this is me and if you would be comfortable with the change then do what makes you happy.

Yes they put it cannot be resize because it alters VCA authentication but it isn’t a technical issue … thanks for your input I appreciate

Thanks @EpiFanatic : I personally am comfortable with it. Just would be happier with a VCA service but I can live with it better than live without this ring I think …

I think that @lynne_ross you also had trouble finding this ring in your size but did you find it in another size and renounce to buy it ?

I think this ring is lovely, but I would caution you to think carefully before you proceeded. A friend was interested in a similar design and when she brought it up to her sales associate it was mentioned that VCA will not size the ring because there is a risk of the diamonds becoming unsecure in their settings and coming loose. She decided not to proceed, because TWO of her VCA diamond pieces have had a diamond come loose and she had to pay to replace the diamonds out of pocket and wait quite awhile for the repair. Just something to consider, since you would need to size the ring.

Hello thanks for the input. I decided not to proceed with the purchase after all. I know that changing the size without VCA consent will be a no go for repairing the ring by their own Atelier if something happens to the ring after that ….
It is a pity I really love this design :crybaby:

I understand why you love this ring. It's actually one of my favourite rings/collections they had produced and wish it would be reintroduced (but its rarity also adds to its desire; so maybe not). Adjusting the size really is risky when you alter it. As mentioned above, it can weaken the integrity, alter the design positioning, etc. and altering can become even more risky when it is adjusted more than a tiny bit. I assume you tried all your non-dominant hand fingers. I would have said if it even just fit on the pinky finger (and looked good), you should get it and just use a sizer but sadly this is a ring that needs to be worn on the middle or ring finger to be showcased properly. It's not suitable for the first or last fingers. Unless you are someone who is a collector who is happy to buy pieces without wearing, and there are more of those than we might think, its basically money which will give very little reward in return other than when you lift the top to your jewelry box. Let's think positive and say one will come to you. If you are patient and persistent one will come your way.

Hi glamourbag and thanks for the comforting words. It did work and lift me up which I am grateful :hbeat:
Thanks to everyone for your real support and advise. I will follow it and know that deep deep inside I knew it (asked about this ring as soon at it popped up on their website).
And I also have a trend to think that everything comes to you at the right time so I wait and … hope to see !
Good Sunday
