Papillon trunk - Epi vs monogram

I am team Épi all the time, but this bag is a tough one. Looks so cool in Monogram, has that iconic hardsided trunk vibe even more than the Épi. But I can see why they told you that. Although I am sure that it has a reinforecement under the canvas, so unless it would be worn very tightly, it will be fine.
SA did say they are trying to phase out monogram and encourage more leather. That's also why I'm doubtful about what he mentioned of its durability
That being said. Yes, monogram print looks way better on a trunk. I haven't been so attracted to an LV for such a long time.
They are secretive, but I am sure that at least 70-80% of their overall sales is canvas. Phasing that out would be as if Apple stopped selling iPhones

This bag is so so nice. The only thing I'd prefer is a leather strap instead of the all monogram.

"phase out"? As in they're trying to get rid of monogram prints/discontinue the print?
I believe the SA just heavily rephrased the goals they were told. They only can try to bring more focus on leather. Those are usually more expensive (the margin is not surprisingly worse though), and maybe they just want to shift away from the image of the PVC-company to a leathergoods company that sells actual leather
I was also debating on this because of the price. same price for leather and canvas, i guess they want people to buy more leather,but ended up with monogram. the details Of the bag is amazing, epi leather look kinda plain to me. It would be so cool if they have this bag in leather with emboss
I haven’t seen the bag in person but it seems like a very structured bag so i can’t see it really changing in shape...
I don’t think that Monogram is going away anytime soon. Personally I’m a big fan of the three Epi colors. I think the all black bag is very versatile, you can wear it crossbody as a casual bag during the day and you can remove the strap and carry it as an evening bag. I hopeful they will bring the Pink to the US market.
Exactly! But then again, there's also the added advantage of not having to wait X months to use a bag you paid for. They can't give me a date on when it will arrive. Only said they can't order it at the present moment. They do require full payment to order it. Which is odd as they didn't require that previously.
Does tropical weather also kill off canvas faster? My bucket hasn't aged well.
I live in a tropical weather as well, and I got the mono papillon trunk. While the canvas seems soft, the structure of this bag is enforced at the rounded corners. I really do not think it will lose its shape or sag, but I believe some SAs standby the notion that leather bags will last longer than canvas bags and can be conditioned, unlike canvas that could potentially tear despite its supposedly durability against rain and shine. Therefore, some SA' opinion on durability can be questionable at times, when buyers would know their habits and lifestyles better.
The papillon trunk will be a forever piece in my humble collection, and like you, I was contemplating between the epi and mono, too. However, I prefer the mono for it was more of a statement piece of this cute yet classic shape of this fashion house. I have seen pics of epi bags that bent/sank as well, so I would say - just get the one that makes your heart sing. The pandemic made me accept (albeit realised earlier) that life is too short.

Do you have a picture carrying the mono? I partially stuck too as I haven't seen anyone in it

If you do, just type #lvpapillontrunk and you shall see many pics of those wearing mono and epi.
I made my decision there, especially after seeing the pics from sareeinchelsea and beautyduang's acc in Instagram.
Hahhaha..... I think this bag, even the mono, can be dressed up or down.
However, I always feel it is best to pair a mono bag with a plain top or bottom to balance off the "busyness", you know.
