Hi everyone - I have an LV palm springs mini that I purchased from Fashionphile in 2020 for ~$1375. I've loved this bag and feel as though I took great care of it, however last year I noticed the canvas was peeling and cracking on the top as well as showing early signs of cracking on the front panel. After going back and forth quite a bit with the LV repair team, they quoted me $1175 to completely replace the upper panel and front piece. According to them, the damage was likely caused by handling the bag with hand sanitizer on my hands. I don't really think that was the cause as I am very careful with my bags, but of course there was really no use in arguing their position.

Since this will be my first potential repair with LV, I'd love advice on your repair experience with LV. I was also curious whether, if after repairing, anyone has experienced the same issue again? I have a number of other LV pieces (some over 30+ years old) and have never experienced cracking/peeling like this and I'm nervous that in 3-5 years, I'll have to repair this same item again.

I'm also open to other suggestions!! Thank you!

Unfortunately it looks exactly like the effects of hand sanitizer on modern LV canvas. Yes it can happen again if you continue to touch LV canvas with residue of hand sanitizer. So my advice is, handle with care.

thanks so much. I assume this is the type of damage that happens after repeated contact with sanitizer? I guess I would be surprised if it could happen after just one time and makes me wonder whether if it is even worth replacing if the canvas is that delicate.

Even a few seconds will cause the plastic coating to bubble and discolour unfortunately. Sanitizer is a real killer 😮‍💨

It is extremely durable and can withstand constant use for a century, but these sanitizers are practically strong chemical solvents. Also it is not the PVC itself, that you see here get dissolved. They print the Monogram motif onto the PVC, then coat it with a very fine plastic layer to protect the print from rubbing off. That layer is the one here getting annihilated.
