Padded cassette, inconsistent finish?

I was in BV in Arizona a few weeks ago and held the PC. Then today in Rome we went in to purchase the same bag and I immediately thought to myself it didn’t feel like butter like the one I held a few weeks ago. Just as k was thinking that, my son touched it and said “this doesn’t feel like butter!” My fiancé then touched it and also felt it didn’t have the same quality ; it honestly felt fake. We didn’t end up purchasing it. I’m wondering if anyone has noticed inconsistency with the finish of the leather like this? It was drastically different.

Was it a different kind of leather ( lamb vs calfskin)?
