I need ideas! :) I've been married 12 years with the same set. DH picked it out himself, and I have always loved it. But the prongs have had to be tightened twice this year (never before), and the local jeweler is recommending a new head with six prongs. I really don't want to do that with this setting. I'd rather get a CZ oval to set in it, and get a new wedding set for an upcoming anniversary (lucky number 13? Hah!). I want to keep the anniversary band with the reset... And will be keeping the oval. I <3 it. All three rings (along with plenty of other sparkly pieces!) are from M. Martin on Wabash in Chicago. I will go back there for the new set. But I would love design ideas, websites, etc. I love the solitaire look, would love half moons or thin baguettes along the shoulders... Not sure about a halo for me, even though they're beautiful... I work with toddlers for my job, so I don't want a setting that's too high. I wear my rings day and night and for everything except working with chemicals.

Specs: 1.006 oval, F color, SI1. I'm a ring size 7.5. The rings pictured are all 2mm or 2.5 mm each--I like the look of 6-8mm total. The anniversary band is very low profile and has bead set diamonds (3 or 4 pts each). All rings are platinum.

Bezel sets are modern and durable. You sacrifice a bit of sparkle, but the stone is lower, well protected and can look a bit bigger.

Do you want to maintain the N/S orientation? Or are you ok with doing a horizontal stone?

This half moon one is gorgeous, too:

I do gravitate toward bezel--just got stacking rings for my mother's ring set where the gemstones are bezel set. I like the set you showed... Not sure i want that look for my e-ring. Here is a pic of a setting on stuller.com where you have to use your imagination for the finished product--but it has an east-west setting of an oval that caught my eye. I have several stuller settings, and I think they are great quality. This style mimics the Tiffany ribbon ring. But, OMG, the half moons.... I also love pears as side stones. I think I need to go try some on. :p

I second half moons or pears with an oval..micropavè might be risky,if you work with children...you might lose stones or scratch someone..your ring is beautiful, good luck with your choice!

I love the half-moon, as well as the baguettes, with the oval diamond. It's just a matter of deciding what you like best with your stone - it's all beautiful!
