Hi Everyone,
I'm engaged but with no ring yet. Will be getting it on Saturday but I was thinking should I get other jewelry instead? When we first got engaged he bought be a Cartier Love ring. The budget he gave me is $15k. I have been looking everywhere and nothing WOW's me in that price range. My dream ring is from Harry Winston and a 1.5 ct emerald cut with the classic setting is $34,100. I was thinking Blue nile but even that I'd go over the budget by $4k with the setting and stone I'd want. He just bought a house for us and I can't ask for him to double the budget for a ring from winston. So I was thinking of maybe some other jewelry instead of the ring? I have a love bracelet and thought maybe I could ask for the JUC or the serpenti ring from Bulgari or another love bracelet. What do you all think?

I think an engagement ring is an engagement ring and that is that. Nothing else is an engagement ring...not a JUC or serpenti ring or love bracelet. I also guess I am a bit bowled over that you cannot find a ring for $15K that you love. Does it have to be the end all or "dream ring"? I think men take great pride in the ring the fiance wears and maybe you should let this be more about him than you. Please don't read me wrong. I am not getting on you. Just my thoughts.

I wouldn't use the budget on something else. Why just buy something just because there's money allocated? If you want to get them, buy them outside of this. It just means I'm thousands further from my dream ring. I'd either stick with the Love ring or buy an inexpensive placeholder ring until the dream ring could be bought.

I second the idea of buying a placeholder inexpensive ring and saving up for the dream one. Can you maybe come up with the shortfall yourself? Doing overtime at work or something? I'm sure you can talk about this together and come up with a plan.

I agree with you 100% I'm really set on HW even though I find them absurdly priced but it's been a dream of mine to have a ring from them since I was little. I just wanted to get something now, I'm all about instant gratification. Just wish my budget was bigger. I have been a little sad about this ring thing for a few days. It's such a first world problem I know and we just got my dream home. I need to snap out of it
Also, if you truly want HW, don't go for Blue Nile as a placeholder. I know that I'd want what my heart was set initially on and would just wind up paying for both eventually.

I'd really stick with the Love then and get the HW later. The Love is a very nice and sentimental piece and it's not like there will be no option later. If people ask, tell them he bought you an engagement home and start showing pictures. You'll have enough shopping opportunities for the house to distract you.

We bought a stunning 1.51 VS1 round diamond from Blue Nile after doing a lot of looking and research. Price and service were excellent and they are GIA certified. We liked that they offered an upgrade policy if we choose to use it

Blue Nile does offer great and conparable options, but if one's heart is set on a branded diamond and setting, then I suggest waiting for that. I have no stake in branded vs non-branded jewelry, but if that's the dream and she'll still want the HW after the fact, dropping 20k on a ring that she's disappointed in isn't worth it imo.
