I wanted some 3/4 round brilliant diamond studs. I didn't want to spend more than $1000-$1200.

I picked out two diamonds on Blue Nile's "build your own earrings" and ordered.

For whatever reason, I didn't pay enough attention to the cut because I could have sworn I'd picked ideal cut diamonds.

I have been looking at the certificates on them and they are only good cut *sigh*. The rest is fine; F-G in color SI1 .37 each no flourescence.

But I have heard over and over how important the cut is in studs

Well, they will be delivered tomorow. For only about $10 more, I have found comparable diamonds on Blue Nile now that are ideal cut.

Tell me to wait and see the ones I ordered, they're probably beautiful.

Or should I just order the other ones now (because the sets of diamonds seem to come and go fast on Blue Nile) and return the first pair I ordered when they arrive?

I hate returning things, HATE. But now I'm driving myself nuts over this cut thing.

Any advice? :smile1:

Personally, if I knew they were coming tomorrow, I would wait and see. I have ordered pieces from Blue Nile and I have been very happy. You may like what you see. That is just what I would do but if it means losing sleep over it, then order them and return the others.

i'm no diamond expert so how bad is good cut compared to ideal cut? are you worried even though they will only be in your ears and not on your finger? do you wear your hair down a lot? i feel like people wont notice that they are "good" cut if they are just in your ears...but then again i don't know the real difference. :confused1:

blue nile has a great return policy, so if you get the earrings and they don't live up to your sparkly expectations or you still feel that twinge about not having an ideal cut don't hesitate to order the ones you'll really be happy with.

I got my mom studs from BN last year in ideal cut with I color and thanks to the cut, they look near white in good lighting. I have more pics of them in the reference section. My e-ring is in the shot & the diamond is D color. Not a too noticeable difference...:amuse:

i was always told, even by jewelers (and i could be wrong here) that you don't necessarily want the BEST cut diamonds for your ears. save that for your hands/fingers.

my diamond studs are not the best cut either but you know what? they're still gorgeous and i am always getting tons of compliments on them daily.

not many people will see the cut when they're in your ears. definitely not like a ring on your finger.

wait and see what happens. otherwise, it sounds like with your budget, you got a great deal.

Thank you all so much for your input. I held off on ordering the second pair last night.

I am hoping I will love the ones that come today.

I will definitely let you all know.

Thanks again :D

UPDATE:

So I received the studs today, and they are indeed beautiful. I cannot detect any inclusions at ALL and they look *icy* white.

They sparkle nicely, and there is a tiny part of me that wonders, would it really make a difference to go through returning for a little bit more sparkle. (I'd love to take pictures, but I haven't been able to get a clear picture. I will try again for a good picture though.)

But I'm not going to return them. They really are beautiful and I love them so I'm just going to let it go.

I know one thing for sure, they are 100x better than any (supposedly) comparable earrings I tried on at local diamond brokers and at the mall. And these were cheaper than the ones I tried on at those stores too, even at their sale prices.

I am very impressed with Blue Nile. The diamonds are definitely excellent quality.

Thank you all so very much for giving your input. Its been very helpful.
