I posted awhile back about what center diamond to get for my engagement ring and since then my bf proposed and we bought a 3.0 carat round diamond (went with an eye clean SI1, H colour, EX cut).

So now I am trying to find a setting for the diamond and would love some opinions.

After trying on some rings, I like either (in platinum):
A) thin single row micro pave band - 3/4 the way around
B) thin triple row micro pave rounded band - 3/4 the way around, like this one from Simon G:

Other suggestions? I don't want a halo or anything that distracts too much from the center diamond or anything that sticks up high.

My ring size is 5.5 and I have really long fingers (despite being 5"3 and 105 pounds) if that helps.....thanks in advance

Thanks Swanky and Queennadine.

My concerns with the single row pave is that 1) the diamond will hang to the side or flop forward and 2) the diamond looks a big 'too big/showy'. I think that a thicker band compliments a larger diamond without down playing it too much.

Congrats!!! I have a slightly different opinion: as your stone is HUGE. It will be so elegant to combine it with a plain band. You could later add a thin eternity band

Monica - I tried it with a plain band and I just found it looked...well plain. I prefer the look of a diamond band.

Itsonly4me - I like the diamond band in your pic...that is my option B (except 3/4 way around).

Then I would choose for thin pave! It will be lovely. Depending on your budget, a three stone setting would also be lovely. Or 2 side stones.

I guess you have your answer then ;)

I prefer the contrast of a large stone on a beautiful delicate band. My 3.67 is on a super thin band now and I love that. Sounds like you don't prefer it so get the larger one

Most of the big designers (Simon G, etc) require your jeweler to ship them the stone for setting as they often make the ring specifically around your stone. Something to consider.

I do know Leon is one that will take the stone directly from you so depending where in Canada you are you could make a weekend trip to see him, or have an appraiser ship to him. You may want to call if you have a setting idea in mind to discuss with him or his assistant.
