I'm planning to buy a toy loulou for my birthday and will probably end up getting it in light pink but the more I look at the velvet versions the more gorgeous I think they are. I've shied away from buying velvet bags in the past because I felt they are trendy and that in 5 or 10 years I would think they look dated, but now I'm not so sure. It seems like the velvet toy loulous are mostly sold out now, do you guys think they will come back next year? Is velvet more of a winter bag or could you wear it in the summer?

it's more associated with holidays/winter months tbh. i think velvet is a classic, more for special occasion. velvet items do tend to wear faster than leather - they go bald in spots (even the toy velvets i have seen this already), so they can't really be for everyday wear. velvet is out every season - perhaps not again in the toy style, but velvet is always out there by the design houses. if you're hesitant maybe wait and see how people like their velvet loulou bags after a year or so of use. gucci velvet was HOT and it already died down so the loulou velvets will likely end up all over resale sites soon enough if you like resale.

I don't think it has to be seasonal....Busy Phillips first comes to mind as someone who wore her velvet Gucci marmont year-round with a variety of outfits from casual to dressy.

Probably depends on the color and style of your bag. I picked up a few velvet bags after researching care issues for some time, and would probabaly wear my SL teal small Loulou and burgundy Kate year-round, but reserve my emerald toy Loulou for cooler months.

Definitely a Trendy piece. I got a Red Velvet Gucci Marmont for Christmas & i just wore it twice since i just celebrated my Birthday this month but even then i felt like it was kindof out of season. It may be more high maintenance than leather but odds are most people will wear it 2-3 months out of the year so it will last a pretty long time! I saw the velvet toy loulou’s in nordstrom & they are stunning!

Omg I love your marmont! That was the other velvet bag I was thinking about for next winter, I didn't realize velvet was high maintenance though

I think they are more seasonal but there are no rules. One should do as they wish.

One thing about velvet bags I feel they do not hold up well. I don’t think they age well. Eventually they will show wear more easily than leather so to me th eprice pont for some velvet bags are not worth the investment.

This thread is very interesting. I'm debating which one to keep out of these 2 burgundy purses in velvet:
1) Kate small with gold HW
2) Kate WOC with silver HW with crystals.

On one side I really like the burgundy color with gold hw, it has such a vintage look, holds more and is more versatile as the logo is plain metal without crytstals.

On the other side since velvet is a more picky material, I think I will mostly use it at night and during events, and like you guys said above, during holidays season. For that purpose I think a WOC is more suitable especially with the crytal logo.

I really want to know what you guys think. How you've been liking your velvet bags so far and how's the wear and tear? TIA.

I'll enclosed some of pictures below that I found on the internet (source: Pinterest...).

I bought a Jimmy Choo velvet bag that should be arriving tomorrow. I've always loved velvet, so don't care if it is the current 'trend' or not. But I do only wear it in fall, winter, and early spring. I can't imagine wearing velvet in the summer, due to temperature; but might carry my new velvet bag in the summer.

Personally I love velvet bags. Luxurious to handle and these look especially beautiful. I don’t know what the price point was, but they seem divine...
I agree with you. I got them during the recent winter sale at 30% off so they're both at very good price, €1015 for the small Kate and €875 for the WOC! They both look stunning that's why I'm in this dilemma as I can only keep one of them and have to return the other. I have 2 weeks left to decide!

Yes velvet has a so special look, I don't see myself carry velvet bag in summer either as it's hotter and hotter each year with the climate change
Please showcase your bag once you receive it and let us know how you like it!

I love a velvet bag, especially a clutch or on the mini/micro end of the spectrum. I like materials that are less common. Sort of in the category of “exotic” without being an actual exotic skin. When I carry a velvet bag it’s both visually and tacitlely luxe.
