I'm still relatively new to the board but I love it! Everyone is so helpful!

Anyway, I've been obsessed with the Tiffany DBTY solitaire YG necklace and I get to pick one out for Mothers Day. I have a couple of options to choose from but I would love some input!

My options are:
a .29 G VVS1 for $1980
a .29 I VVS2 for $1380 or...
a .35 G SI1 for $1840

For a necklace which C do you think is the most important? I have not seen them to compare yet - I'm going tonight but I wanted to get some feedback before I went.

If you could pick one, which one would you go for?

Thanks! :graucho:

Assuming that the cut is top for all 3 options, I would pick 0.35 ct G SI1. The reasons are size (largest) and color (highest), both features of which are readily noticeable. VVS1/2 clarity is overkill. Unless you have super human vision, you cannot see inclusions easily in VS diamonds and some SI1 diamonds. As long as the SI1 diamond is eye-clean (unaided eyes), the stone is acceptable. You can check for yourself easily if the stone is eye-clean by simply viewing it.

Among the C's, cut is the most important. I do not believe all Tiffany diamonds have the best cut. Each diamond needes to be considered individually. Check out the diamond yourself under various lighting conditions. Do not base your decision on the strong boutique lights only. Make sure you examine the diamond under regular daylight.

Personally, I would get a dbty necklace from Whiteflash with a top cut, AGS or GIA certified stone with an HCA score under 2 and for much lower price (about $1000). Top cut diamond is the most important to me. Not the Tiffany name and the blue box.

Thanks for the opinions. After reading the opinions I decided to go to my local jeweler to see what they could do. They had a loose diamond .58ct, F color SI1 that they could put into a bezel setting for just a little bit more than that .29, G color, VVS1 $1980 version from Tiffany! I'm so excited.

I wouldn't have even thought of going to them if it wasn't for this forum.

Thanks!

I had no idea how hard it was to photograph jewelry! :shrugs: :)

Anyway, this was the best shot that I could get of it that I could load up. My other shots are too big of files and tPF won't take them.

BTW...I see you're in Austin. So am I!

I looked at this same necklace in Tiffany's and my SA was very helpfull. She actually picked a necklace for me taking into consideration my price point and what look I was going for. She didn't pressure me into the most expensive one, but actually a lesser quality stone that still had tons of sparkle. Unfortunately it was an insurance replace and I found the piece I lost. No new necklace for me. But if you go to the Tiffany's store I think you'll find the SA's helpfull.

IDtoTX! Love your necklace! OMG! It turned out awesome! I was so curious about this because I am waiting for my 30" long DBTY necklace to be made at Whiteflash. I sent several of my own .20pt diamonds from a ring and they are adding
some of their own .15's and .10's........ My next is going to be a single like yours!

Yes! I do live in Austin! We have been here since 1997 and love it!
