Opinion on these pale yellow bags

I don't own any yellow bags and thought I might add one to my collection. The idea started because I like the Chanel 22 and after trying to figure out what color to get, decided on the light yellow shiny calfskin. However, when I went to pick up the bag, I accidentally ended up buying a Dior bag (not yellow) instead. Still have the yellow 22 on my mind, however, I also came across a couple of other light yellow bags that I like at varying price points: the Givenchy medium Voyou and the Bottega Veneta large Hop. I saw the Hop recently but I have never seen the Voyou in person. A few thoughts on each:
  • Is it best to go with my gut and stick with original plan to get the Chanel 22? Maybe there's a reason I opted for the Dior on a whim instead of feeling love at first sight with the Chanel. It may have just been the lighting in the store but it had almost a slight green undertone. I was able to see a yellow at the Real Real in Palm Beach but it was caviar leather, which I don't care for. If I don't get this bag in the yellow, what other color would I get? I am not typically a Chanel girl but think this style is really cute.

  • I have a few other Givenchy bags and was never planning on a Voyou at all until I realized they just came out with light yellow bags. This style would make the most sense as I already have 2 Antigonas and a moon cut out (the other bags available in yellow). I have never seen this color in person - on the website, it appears to be a beautiful but I saw another photo online that looked darker/brighter (I want a soft buttery yellow). Also the bag looks pretty large and hard to tell how it would look without trying on. However, the price is significantly less than the Chanel so I figure it might be worth consideration (especially since I'm supposed to be on a ban).

  • I noticed the Hop while I was running through Heathrow airport recently and only had a minute to try on. It probably caught my eye bc I was on a hunt for the yellow Chanel but I also love oversize bags. I have been wanting a BV bag (was looking at the Jodie) but problem has always been I can't figure out what color to get. On a whim, I just ordered the small Hop last night in the Oyster color, which is sort of a lilac so I don't think it would be that redundant to have larger size in light yellow. Or would it? Price is middle of the road between the other 2 bags.
Would love some opinions here! Do I go for the 22 I've been obsessing over, go for the more reasonably priced Givenchy which is probably nice and still fulfills yellow bag quest (I know I don't sound that excited about this but I did try on a Voyou boyfriend in pink that I loved but I don't need anymore pink bags), or the BV which might kill 2 birds with one stone but might be redundant to have 2 hops when I probably still want a Jodie eventually? I'm including a photo along with the dimensions of each (in inches) since I don't think the collage shows bags to scale compared to each other. I really like all 3 but think the BV a tad boring looking next to the other 2 - maybe just bc no visible hardwear. I know BV classic and can't go wrong!

Adding another photo collage to try to show relative size. Bear in mind these models are probably 6 feet tall and I am only 5 feet tall. Funny the Voyou doesn't look that big here but it's still a fairly large bag from other photos I've seen.

I love the Chanel but I’d likely go for black. I have the Voyou and am your height and the size is fine on me. Plus I think it looks good in yellow. It really depends on what size you’re looking for, the Hop’s corners are too sticky-outy IMO and I suspect you’ll see wear there before too long. It’s also a lot of yellow. :lol:

The Chanel is the most fun 'girly' and the most yellow. There's a sherbet quality to the colour the others don't have. Get this if it's exactly what you want. If you're looking for a cheaper option, you'll never be satisfied. I would personally be a bit worried about the hardiness and trendiness this bag style, but that's because when I was young I bought a very trendy Chanel bag style.

The Givenchy seems the most 'buttery' and the gold warms it up too. It's the most lady-like.

The BV could be called pastel yellow, but I think you could also say this could pass as a neutral too. I think it's the one with the most longevity (I still carrying my BV hobos form y e a r s ago). It's a shame they paired it with a big overcoat because it would look better with slim-fitting and/or Summer clothes. I do prefer the original Veneta style which was softer, but you like the Hop. This would be my choice because I am not 'girly' or lady-like.

Neither am I which is why my Voyou is black. :lol:

Thank you both for your detailed and thoughtful replies; your opinions are appreciated and valued. I happened to have a couple of work meetings in Miami today with time to kill in between so I hit the Miami Design District and was able to see the Voyou in person. Didn't love the color as it was brighter than I had hoped (Interestingly enough, the Antigona in pale yellow was much too light) so as much as I wanted to love this bag, I have crossed it off my list. I am going to see if Chanel still has the yellow 22 so I can look at it again when I'm not in such a rush. Although I was originally thinking a small or medium size bag for yellow, I am not opposed to looking at the large hop again but am going to wait until my small hop arrives to see if I like it. Maybe I will look for a Jodie in a pale yellow or Loewe flamenco. Or I might just like the idea of a yellow bag and talk myself out of it altogether if nothing dazzles me.

ETA: I am super "girly" so no wonder the Chanel 22 was my original choice. I am also not bothered by "trendy" bags.

Quick update: They only had a darker yellow at chanel but think palm beach might have 1 left so I can try to see that. BV didn't have the hop in camomile color in store and the bag is HUGE, I'm not sure I need that much yellow. I think the way I'd use a yellow bag, a small bag would be better. The color is very light. I think my best bet if the Chanel doesn't work out is a Celine triomph in a color called sunlight, which is also a ver light yellow. I'll let you know.

Ugh, I am still undecided. I was able to see the yellow Chanel 22 again and I love the slouchy design of the bag but still not 100% sure about the shade (although I don't really like any of the other colorways). I also tried on the Celine Triomphe in Pollen, which was a really pretty yellow (darker than Sunlight which was very light). I like both a lot even though they are very different. I thought I 100% decided on the Celine but now back to leaning towards the 22 though more of a light lemon yellow vs. a buttery yellow. I think I have ruled BV out after also seeing mini and teen Jodie in ice cream and a sardine in Camomile (same color large hop comes in). All pretty but also very light. No one had the hop in camomile but I was able to try on in travertine. It's HUGE. Think I am going to take a break from the yellow bag search for now before I drive myself crazy (may be too late for that lol) and actually use the last 2 bags I bought in the past month which I haven't even used yet! Thanks again for your 2 cents!

Thanks! That makes sense. The one I saw on website is soft yellow do I was expecting a pastel. I didn't think that much about it in store as i judt assumed that had the most current inventory and that was the only yellow shown on the website. I ended up with the hop and love it but would still like a smaller yellow bag at some point. I also still like the voyou but would be more inclined to get in another color. Thanks again for the info.
