Hi everyone, it’s been so long since I have posted, it was easier to be a regular when there was an app, to my understanding there isn’t one anymore? But I know that I can find what I need from my fellow handbag love and community here! I recently sold a few bags, thought I would never do that, but I am trying to decide between Louis Vuitton ONTHEGO GM in Mono or should I get the new Jackie 1961 hobo in their signature Web? I recently moved from the San Francisco Bay area to the Tampa Bay area and I am no longer commuting into the city when I worked in San Francisco, and now I am working from home. I love how the ONTHEGO is such a showstopper and very Bravo Housewives, but I have been looking for a classic Web hobo from Gucci for years and now
it’s available...
So what do you guys think I should get? I am ALSO open to other suggestions besides these two, but they are the ones that make my heart sing! I made a mock up collage of the bags I already have and then I’ll added both of the potential bags to the mix just so you could see what my collection looks like… Just got rid of a Neverfull GM in DE, a Gucci Disco in tan (not sure of the official name for the color) and a Neo Noé in monogram with black leather. I wasn’t using these bags for than a few times a year, so that’s why I decided to sell...

Thank you all in advance!

While not a personal fan of the Gucci b/c it's not my style, I did own the OTG, and for what you're describing for your lifestyle, the OTG is too big and too structured. It might be a showstopper, but it's really big and bulky and not practical. Go for the Gucci you've wanted.

Thank you ladies for your input...I am leaning towards the Jackie but I am such an LV girl. I was even thinking of adding an LV backpack again. I had the Palm Springs PM and the shoulder strap on the left side was sewn crooked snd kept slipping off my shoulder, so highly annoying for the price. I have a Gucci Mickey backpack that I’ll NEVER get rid of because I am a huge Disney fan but not sure if I really need two? I think the input about the OTG is what I was thinking about all along as far as it being bulky...maybe now I’m between the Jackie and an LV backpack...

I would check out the OTG MM size. GM sounds like it's too big for your lifestyle. I'm 5'4" and OTG GM in giant mono looks silly on me (way too big looking). I have an 1854 OTG GM that isn't overwhelming at all, so if OTG mono doesn't look good on you, try a different material/color too.

I like the classic Gucci styles, but I hate how they're printed and coated canvas these days. The details look really blurry and inferior to the original fabric imo.

I have an LV Montsouris MM in empreinte (turtledove). Haven't had any issues with mine. Can't make it too heavy though, since the straps are thin. You can make the bag shoulder and crossbody, although it's not advertised as such.

Some people love backpacks, and they have a lot of them. I have two in my collection, Montsouris MM and a Coach Parker 16. The Coach is a mini size, perfect for weekends. I'm happy with two backpacks. My friend has five different backpacks, high and low. She uses all of them. About half of my bags are buckets, and I'm looking to get more this year. Once you know what your favorite style is, I think you end up using them the most subconsciously.

I'm really liking the 1854 collection (jacquard/woven fabric). Thinking of adding even more pieces. I like the woven fabric look, and since Gucci doesn't make them anymore, I jumped at LV's line. If you're after the classic Gucci fabric look and love them that way, I think your only alternatives would be LV and Dior.

There are also a ton of items being released for LV SS. Have you looked at the master thread for that? Maybe something will catch your eye there. I used to really like Gucci, but I feel like after 2015/2016, they've just been pumping out the same things. I want to see something different now.

I love the OTG (I have the escale and 1854) but to me it’s not an everyday bag. I use the escale as a beach/pool bag and 1854 as a travel/car bag.

If you carry lots of stuff on the daily then maybe, but it’s quite a large bag.

I’ve always like the Jackie, but I hate bags that kind of sit closer up under the armpit especially with a really structured strap. That’s all, of course, very personal opinion.

My vote is for the Onthego in the MM size. The handbag is eye catching.

I like the look of the OTG, and I prefer the smaller size, but I don’t think it’s as timeless/ classic as the Jackie. That said, I still prefer it. The backpacks, on the other hand Are classics and mainstays and they’ll always be. I just got the Palm springs mini and I love it. I think it’s chic for casual wear and even smart casual, and it forms a lot for the size ( kind of like an Alma BB). I also like the Monstouris.

Thank you all for your responses, your input really means a lot to me, especially because I have not been so active over the years! I read everyone’s take on my question and pondered over every one of your suggestions and appreciate so much detail you provided, really mean that! I told myself when I went to the mall yesterday that I would go to Gucci first and if I wasn’t in love with the hobo, I would walk over to Louis Vuitton, but I really fell in love at first sight with the Jackie hobo when I was standing in line and peering through the window at my potential new bag…so she came home with me!

What are your thoughts? I don’t know why, I was on a high yesterday about the bag, but trying to decide if I still feel the same way today? Does anyone think this bag looks masculine? Or when you see it, does it just look like your classic Gucci hobo? I don’t have one, and I have never had one, always wanted one! In my mind this was the quintessential Gucci hobo, sort of like a Speedy… What are everyone’s thoughts?

I absolutely love this bag. To me, the Jackie O bag is a classic and quintessential Gucci. Fun fact: my husband bought me this bag in small in the black color back in 2002 I believe it was. I was stoked to see that Gucci revamped it but still kept a lot of its original features.
