Hey guys,
I was thinking about this for a while now; throughout school i carried non designer bags, totes whatever.. and occasionally coach too. now that im slowly foraging into the world of designer bags with my (singular lol) LV, Fendi, Gucci, and a few small Coach pieces, I was wondering, did anyone on this forum own non-designer? im talking, Fossil, Tommy H, stuff from Kohls etc? and if you did, did you give it up after you starting designer bags? I dont men this in a snooty manner at all, since i own many non designer pieces, and i tend to funky up my outfit with an interesting bag; and not necessarily designer. Im sorry if this has already been discussed, I didnt find a thread.

I don't just wear designer bags - I wear bags that I like, regardless of who makes them.
Anyway, all the designers started out as "nobodys" at some point in time, so why not give others a chance? Who knows, maybe one day they will be considered designer" :smile1:

I think you can absolutely do both designer and non-designer together but for me I prefer designer bags and don't think I'll ever buy non-designer again. I just love the lush feel of the leather on them

OP, I started off like you as well, non designer or surfie or street wear type label bags like Roxy, Billabong and Mambo. These days, i still have non designer bags, and i still carry them about once to twice a week. I usually buy what i like the look and feel of. And if it is non designer then so be it. :smile1:

I went from department store bags to Coach and was loyal for years. But recently I got my first LV, a Damier Ebene Speedy 30. I have to admit that I don't want to carry my Coach anymore, and I'm considering selling them. It's just too common where I live and it doesn't seem special like it did a few years ago. However since I got my Speedy, I did buy a Fossil wallet that I absolutely *ADORE* and NEVER would have done that when I was wearing Coach. I probably won't ever buy a bag from Target or something anymore though; because they just get worn out and dirty SOO quickly!

for me this phrase is so true. I used to buy (cheap) bags all the time and then they break down quit fast too.
Now that I started to buy designer bags I really don't even look at cheaper bags anymore! Although I bought a schoolbag from Accessorizes because I have already used two bags in two years as schoolbag and they are really beaten up during the process. I've read people use here LV's neverfull at college but I wouldn't even talk about the possibility use it here!

I will buy cheap non-designer bags for travel and inclement weather (rain/snow).

I do not travel with my designer bags.. squishing them in the suitcase can ruin them and I don't like to attract attention to my bag and what might be in it.

I still mix it up a bit - for example, I have a nylon Hilfiger messenger bag that I carry everywhere when I'm on vacation, because it's durable, waterproof, and has a lot of convenient compartments (unlike my other travel bag - Le Pliage is AWESOME, but has no good organization).

If it's a trend that I find cute and MUST have a bag from, I prefer to buy non-designer anyway - I'm not going to pay Gucci prices for something I may only carry for a summer. I also still have almost all of my Coach, even though I have more LV than anyone else, because they're cute, durable leather bags and I still use them.

I'll buy whatever bag suits my style, designer or non-designer.

One of my favorites is a bag from an etsy artist, and I'll keep supporting independant designers next to buying premier designer bags. I do stay away from most department store brands though, they're usually made out of pleather anyway and I like my bags to be all leather...

To be honest, I can't bring myself to buy a non-designer bag. It doesn't make much sense, but I won't buy, say, a Jessica Simpson bag I like for $49, while I would if it was the same exact bag by Marc Jacobs for $499. :shrugs: It's a mindset I need to be broken out of.
