Anyone else been told they are down 35% from 2 years ago?!
Was talking to my diamond broker this AM. DH wants to get me a fancy intense or fancy vivid canary around 6 ct, part of the reason for an investment. I have bought many items from this broker, he worked at Christies for many years. Trust him, he's always been a straight shooter.
I told him what I was looking for and why, he said don't do it! He said if I want a fancy, he has a 14 ct fancy yellow radiant he'll sell for $85,000! I asked him to repeat that three times! But do not buy for an investment. The fakes are getting so good they are hard to designated from a real and so many are enhanced and the professionals have a hard time telling. He said people are getting more casual and they don't mind wearing a fake! Sounds like the designer purse industry.
*insert crazy face here* I said but in our hearts we'd know they are fake. He said most don't care. Then he mentioned a HUGE celebrity having a large blue diamond that isn't real. He very well could have that cliental with his connections. He's got diamonds that in the old days only Christies and Sotheby's would have. He said now its easy to get those as all he has to do is offer a little less to the sellers and they have saved money they would of paid on commission. No, you might not see it at the retail end yet . But the auction houses is where it is starting and will trickle down.
OMG I'm sick.
