I think I know which line you are speaking of. I have two small drawstrings from this collection. They were very structured. I have a natural with a bright blue interior and a black with a hot pink interior - because I could not decide, bought both with the intention of returning one, but ended up keeping both. I loved them and used them often. The edges were raw in that there was no trim. I would dig them out to find the name because I NEED to know now but I am immobile at this time. I tried different Google searches but no luck. I will keep trying. I have been looking at the Belmar but without any pockets inside I just don’t know If this would work for me. Too large to not have organization for an everyday carry.
LID: thanks for your response. I have been going crazy trying to figure it out.... with no luck. I hope you feel better soon, not just so that you can search for the answer.
I've looked online and in some old Dooney catalogs. Nothing. I can't even pin down the time frame other
than from my hazy memory. I know the original collection was leather lined in the bright colors. The
other bags in the current Belmar collection appear to have red cotton linings, the drawstring is unlined
except for the base of the interior which is leather.
Regarding the Belmar. I purchased the Belmar 25 drawstring and received it on Friday. I'm still deciding.
It's a sleek look and I like the white contrast stitching (it's very limited). the leather has some structure,
but it's pliable and softer and thinner than Alto leather. It reminds me very much of Alto.... smooth,
finely grained, not pebbled, and with a soft luster. It's relatively light weight and a decent size
drawstring because of the deep base. Tje strap is the beautiful wider equestrian buckle strap that
many collectors love. There are no feet or reinforced leather strips on the bottom.
The interior of the Belmar drawstring is raw leather and
empty. The top edge of the leather is glazed in the same color as the bag.
I will need to use an organizer as I'm used to certain pockets in a typical Dooney for placement
of my keys and credit card case. (I even have trouble switching to Alto or other brands because of the
lack of the pockets I'm relying on for quick/secure access to key items.) But I make allowances for handbags
I like. If it was only about function, I'd have far, far, far fewer handbags.
The key concern I have is that the Belmar leather shows scratches and marks. Of course this is also true about
Alto and some other collections, and that hasn't stopped me from buying them either. The Belmar I got has
a few marks and they are not going away with buffing. So I need to live with that or return the bag.
My decision process tends to get tangled up between price I paid, would I have bought it if I was in the
store and saw it and evaluated all the factors, and the fact that I don't need anymore handbags.
I got the black Belmar drawstring because I wanted a black drawstring. I think the natural (or saddle) color
would be amazing, but I already have a Florentine drawstring in that color.
