Does anyone remember the name of the Dooney collection from the early 2000s (?) that was a very contemporary
design.... smooth leather with a soft sheen, brightly colored leather lining to contrast to the exterior.
It was inspired by a popular high end Italian or French brand style at the time.
The Dooney Belmar drawstring reminds me of that collection.

I think I know which line you are speaking of. I have two small drawstrings from this collection. They were very structured. I have a natural with a bright blue interior and a black with a hot pink interior - because I could not decide, bought both with the intention of returning one, but ended up keeping both. I loved them and used them often. The edges were raw in that there was no trim. I would dig them out to find the name because I NEED to know now but I am immobile at this time. I tried different Google searches but no luck. I will keep trying. I have been looking at the Belmar but without any pockets inside I just don’t know If this would work for me. Too large to not have organization for an everyday carry.

LID: thanks for your response. I have been going crazy trying to figure it out.... with no luck. I hope you feel better soon, not just so that you can search for the answer.
I've looked online and in some old Dooney catalogs. Nothing. I can't even pin down the time frame other
than from my hazy memory. I know the original collection was leather lined in the bright colors. The
other bags in the current Belmar collection appear to have red cotton linings, the drawstring is unlined
except for the base of the interior which is leather.

Regarding the Belmar. I purchased the Belmar 25 drawstring and received it on Friday. I'm still deciding.
It's a sleek look and I like the white contrast stitching (it's very limited). the leather has some structure,
but it's pliable and softer and thinner than Alto leather. It reminds me very much of Alto.... smooth,
finely grained, not pebbled, and with a soft luster. It's relatively light weight and a decent size
drawstring because of the deep base. Tje strap is the beautiful wider equestrian buckle strap that
many collectors love. There are no feet or reinforced leather strips on the bottom.

The interior of the Belmar drawstring is raw leather and
empty. The top edge of the leather is glazed in the same color as the bag.
I will need to use an organizer as I'm used to certain pockets in a typical Dooney for placement
of my keys and credit card case. (I even have trouble switching to Alto or other brands because of the
lack of the pockets I'm relying on for quick/secure access to key items.) But I make allowances for handbags
I like. If it was only about function, I'd have far, far, far fewer handbags.

The key concern I have is that the Belmar leather shows scratches and marks. Of course this is also true about
Alto and some other collections, and that hasn't stopped me from buying them either. The Belmar I got has
a few marks and they are not going away with buffing. So I need to live with that or return the bag.
My decision process tends to get tangled up between price I paid, would I have bought it if I was in the
store and saw it and evaluated all the factors, and the fact that I don't need anymore handbags.

I got the black Belmar drawstring because I wanted a black drawstring. I think the natural (or saddle) color
would be amazing, but I already have a Florentine drawstring in that color.

Yes! Serena. I have two smooth and two textured. As I was looking at the pictures I remembered I have a navy/green and a hot pink/green, too! What a fun collection this was! The colors were so vibrant and the leather wore like steel. Thank you StillWG for helping! I appreciate it so very much. I just love going down memory lane

Hi LJ & everyone!

Was the collection you are looking for called "Serena"? There are examples on ebay for reference.

Sue
I'll check it out. Thanks.
Yes, that's the one. I didn't realize it came in so many versions....
I was remembering the smooth leather version with the contrast interior.
But is see the textured version and the pebbled version on ebay also.
Mystery solved. Thanks so much.

Hi...not sure if this is the collection you're referring to but I have the t-moro with green interior in the Serena (bucket) and Waverly Tote...the collection is Montecito.

Jazzy: Yes, I think it is. I remember the name starting with an M. And the style and coloring of the bag are also
what I remember from the collection.
When I looked up Serena on ebay, at the suggestion of StillWG, the 'same' style bag also appeared,
along with textured collections. So was a little confused.
But now it makes more sense.... Montecito collection, Serena bucket bag.
Thanks again for the info and picture.

I pulled out an Alto the other day I had not carried and didn't like it due the closure. I think I have a couple with the same closure that are new. I should have trialed the style before purchasing multiples in similar styles.
Most of my bags are Alto and I am feeling lazy about having to baby the bags. I'm thinking about getting rid of some and replacing with florentine. I'm realizing I like being able to be a little careless with my D&B bags. Also, post covid, I haven't given up my more casual attire. In other words, I have been looking a little sloppy lately and need to put in a bit of effort.

I know what you mean about babying some of your handbags. My Alto and Florentine collections
fall into that group for me. I buy them because they are beautiful, then I save them At least
you have used your Alto bags and enjoyed them.
My go to Dooney leather is pebbled leather.... care free and it holds up nicely. It's also a more
casual look since many of the styles aren't as structured as the Alto.

I think Alto styles have gone thru a few iterations.... I liked the old one much better.
For a few years there was very little that caught my interest. Now they have gotten
a little better, but still, very few grab me. I miss he colors and the larger styles.
And at current prices, I really want to adore a bag before buying it... even on sale.
I also have to admit, I like the internal pockets on the other Dooney collections,
the Alto bag are harder for me to use since they often have very few pockets and no
key leash, which I have gotten used to using.

For some reason I started collecting the Alto because they tend to be a little more dressy. I noticed I am getting a bit casual with my fashion and want to go back to purchasing more from the florentine line.
I had a Celebration of Life to go to for a dear friend and pulled out a black Alto. It ended up I was glad to have a dressy bag. I think it's the Phillipa.
I guess that's why we need a variety of bags in size, color and style. At least that's my excuse.

Almost everything seems more casual these days and there seem to be fewer
times when a dressier or more formal handbag is 'needed'. And I too gravitate toward more casual handbags for a lot of daily activities. But, when I look
at Youtube videos I see the influencers styling all manner of handbags with a variety
of clothing. Even the most structured and expensive designer satchels are paired
with jeans. So I guess the bottom line is wear what you want, when you want,
and combine your handbags and clothing in anyway that makes you happy.
I try to use the few nicer occasions to coordinate my better handbags and outfits.
Since I have the handbags, I want to try to use them sometime. I'm no longer changing handbags daily.
