It's interesting that one report called the collection "somber" and "almost sinister," because I don't get that vibe at all--not compared with the darker vibe a few years ago (FW10? the collection with all the scarabee and crawling jewelry).
I like what I see, color-wise!

Bottega Veneta: Autumn/Winter 2013-14 Ready-to-Wear

BOTTEGA VENETA is one of the most luxury of the luxury brands - and doing very well for it, having experienced a 46.7 per cent boost in operating profits in 2012 - so it's interesting that one of the things Tomas Maier was exploring with this collection was, as he put it, "to create embellishment out of poverty". An idea he put to dresses via straw and wood smothered in black to trace contours of the body or highlight it through strands darting in and amongst a sheer gauzy breeze of another dress.
While this made for an interesting and innovative sartorial dialogue, the overriding theme of the collection was a sharpness. "Last season she was more feminine," said Maier backstage, noting the softness then in the shoulders - still is his erogenous zone of choice. Even though this time round they were so much more precise, you could see the evolution and the Maier-Bottega DNA playing out.
This time shapes were more difficult - architectural pleats for skirts on dresses in black, cerise and mustard, or a cluster of them falling down and around from the collar of a coat. Great on the catwalk, trickier to wear day-to-day - and that's what was so wonderful about spring/summer 2013.
The intent was to emphasise volume - backed up by the buoyant hair - and texture: landscape-like felts blended into one and a raw elegance to frayed hems here and there throughout for an untamed beauty. No longer is the Bottega girl flirting her way to success. Instead she's planning on being a little more precise about it. Let's see how that works out. vogue.co.uk
