I didn't see that we had a thread for this topic, and with the mods' permission, I'd like to create our Ode to Hermès Ostrich leather!

I was never a fan of ostrich leather so I don’t have any photos of my own to share. But for a so very hot second, I considered one when I saw Kelly Rutherford wear it so well. But when I saw the leather in person and up close, I just really can’t lol

Here are my ostrich bags. B25 noir with RGHW and mini Lindy nata with PHW. I love both! The B25 is prob my most used bag.



And here’s a C18 in nata ostrich that was offered to me but I passed on.

Rutherford's Ostrich Birkin is to die for. I wander if she had to sell it when she filed for Bankruptcy?

I already have a mini Lindy in nata ostrich, so I didn't want another cross body bag with the same color/leather combo. I was also holding out for an ombre lizard constance, which I subsequently received!

Here's mine.


Calvi in probably cobalt and fuchsia. Got it a couple of years ago when I wasn't particular in knowing the colors yet.
Bastia in terre cuite.


Verrou in rouge vif. This is actually my first H bag.


Kelly pochette in terre cuite. My most recent purchase. Hardware sticker still in tact. it's more pink in person.


Here's comparing the Pochette and Bastia. The Bastia is more pale.

I am starting to really live ostrich, and this thread only make me want it more.
On the other hand, I am an animal lover and try to be aware of the orign of the leather and of how the animals has been «treated». Does anyone of you know anything about ostrich from Hermes?

I know that they source their ostrich leather from South Africa. I did some digging and learned that PETA produced a documentary short (here's the IMDb page) that was not flattering at all to the luxury companies who source ostrich leathers, but that probably comes as no surprise...

If you sincerely have those concerns, you have little alternative than to be vegan.
That is very cut and dried I know, and I face that question myself.
Just where do we draw the line?
