Thanks...love Ports.
Can you tell me more about Ports? I've read about them, but am not too familiar with their product. I think they are very well-made but also on the pricey side. Do you think it would be a good place for an xmas present for my mother and MIL?

Thanks

I have a few pieces including a spring/summer dress that I love...they are classic and of very fine quality. If you love designers such as Calvin Klein and Narcisco Rodriguez you would most likely love Ports. I would say updated classics and certainly on the pricey side but less expensive than the above mentioned designers. I think anyone with great taste would love anything from this line as a gift.

Oh man, I really wished I lived in NYC sometimes! I would love to go to the Rebecca Taylor and Mint sample sales. I think I'll e-mail them and ask if they would be willing to take out-of-state orders!

i went to the mint sale about a year and a half ago, and was not impressed with the prices. everything was still $150 and more. they did have a lot of merch there though -- coats, blouses, skirts, etc. but i can get in-season stuff for around $150 online with a discount code. i'm still going to go this week though. ha.

i've been to several of their sales, and i don't think this is true. i've bought several gorgeous tops for $75 each (which is around 75% off) and a skirt for $50. only the dress and coats were $95-150, which i think is fair.

i like the sales because they're organized, even though there's the usual dressing room situation (people trying on behind a rack of clothes).

did you go to the sale toward the beginning or the end? i went on the first day and was really discouraged. if i had found tops or skirts for less than $100 i would have definitely bought some, but i was just appalled by how a tanktop (albeit very nice and embellished) was over $100 at a sample sale. i agree about their orderliness though -- extremely neat and organized, and they were OK with people trying on clothes behind the racks.

Rebecca Taylor was a huge disappoitment and this is coming from their biggest fan. the prices weren't great and they had these weird grey and also ivory coats that looked like the beginnings of a fab rt coat. I have an ivory coat in the same form from 2 years ago and there is a velvet waist band beautiful crystal buttons etc -all the rt normal embellisshments. This ivory coat in the form of a rt peacoat has weird same fabric buttons - it looked like a coat form and i never saw in the store or online. Oh well ---

I went to the Rebecca Taylor and thought it was ok. I agree that some of the coats were odd, but the black shawl collar coat was very nice - same one as shopbop, saks & neimans. They had some other normal style coats too. Lots of current season tops, blouses, sweaters, pants & skirts. Not bad, but color selection was boring. Prices that I remember were:
Coats $175
Pants $75
Blouses $109
Sweaters $109
Hosiery $5
Knit tights $30

i went to three today:

blumarine, at 30 w57th:
really overpriced still. the ad said things would be around $65 to $100... that would be the two racks of underwear and bathing suits by the door that had glitter and "B"s and rhinestones all over. there were really just three racks of blumarine stuff, a lot of couture-looking items and party dresses that ranged from $750 to $1100. the rest of the sale were other italian brands like anna pollini, etc. not worth it.

mint: once again, disappointed by the prices. fall07 was 50% off retail; winter was 30%, and holiday was 20% off. basically fall tops were around $150, pants $160, dresses were $240 and coats were around $250 as well. the holiday dresses were beautiful but still too much since they were close to $400 after the discount.

ben sherman/evisu: prices were good as usual but every year on the last day the discount is bigger (usually 5 items or $100). the ben sherman stock wasn't great - a rack of tees/polo shirts; a rack of women's button downs; a rack of blazers/coats. they have a blazer that looks like the balenciaga/j.crew one with the piping and the emblem, but the only two color combos left were weird: dark grey and navy piping or olive green with coral piping. that was $65. there was a lot more men's stuff for ben sherman but i didn't look at it. evisu was mostly jeans, but they had a really cute sweater coat with a belt and bows for $75.

man, i'm tired. did anyone look at the repetto stock while at rebecca taylor?
