Not sure whether to hem my dress or not

I have a maxi dress that’s 9 inches too long. But I love how it drags infront of me. The only part that I hate is picking it up the dress everytime I walk. I rather walk in flats because wearing heels makes it walking much harder and restricts my movement even more. So I can’t decide whether to hem my dress or not because I love and hate the length pooling around me

If you intend to wear the dress more than once, you need to hem it, otherwise it will pick up dust, dirt, oil, water, what have you with every step you take. Secondly, for safety, you absolutely need to hem it. If you can't walk on even a flat surface without lifting it, you are likely to step on it and people around you will as well.
Which leads me to my final point, if the dress is 9 inches too long, how well does it fit your torso? Is it even the right style for your body type?

I agree that this is a safety and sanitation issue. Even gowns that are intended to have a train are often hemmed in the front so as not to impede the wearer's movement. I can't even imagine a casual setting (in which a normal maxi dress would be worn) where it would look okay to have to gather that much fabric off the floor in order to move. Any way I imagine it, it looks like it simply doesn't fit.

For sure hem it. It's not at all the look for a maxi dress to imitate a ballgown, and then there's the safety factor (trip hazard).
I really want to hem it right now but my budget is super tight because I recently graduated from university and besides I’m used to wearing dresses that are 3-5 inches too long on me because I like it that way but 9 inches is way too much to move in. wore this dress at my birthday party a month ago and it was such a pain walking in it. I basically looked like a bride with the entire hem dragging (yes including the sides and back). People were stepping on it, I was tripping on the front and I couldn’t walk without holding up the sides with both hands so I just barely walked and talked to friends. For now not gonna hem this dress and im gonna have to wear it at my friends wedding.

Another vote to hem ; I had a pretty pair of satiny wide legged pants that were too long. I thought wearing heels was enough but ended up stepping on the bottom of the pants and it created a tear that went up the side of the pants.

I would advise you not to wear it again unless you hem it ( or at least use reversible hem tape in the meantime)

well sadly im gonna have to wear this at my friends wedding tomorrow and my budget is super tight because i recently graduated from university and I cant afford alterations right now. And besides i like my dress 3-5 inches too long but 9 inches is way too much to move in.

This is with heels on
This looks great on you hips up, but it is really, really long... I know you said you don't have budget for alterations but you did ask for opinions to hem or not.

The dress 'hem' to me, looks like it is unfinished, that it has been left long and raw to allow for alterations. It wouldn't look right wearing it in its current state.

I personally would pull an all nighter if I had to, to hem it by hand. Absolutely no way I would wear it out like that. Apologise if my words seem harsh, it's not intended to be personal, but it looks ridiculous to wear it as it is. If I couldn't have it hemmed I would just wear something else.

Good luck and have fun at your friend's wedding.

I think it would be better to wear a different dress to your friend’s wedding that you can move around safely and comfortably in. If this dress impedes your ability to walk and talk with other people it would be better to hem it before you wear it again.

This is a pretty dress and I think that you would be noticed in it. Unfortunately, it will start being remembered by your social circle not for being pretty but due to being just too long.
