Hi everyone,

My grandmother left me various jewelry when she passed, among them a vintage faberge gold watch. It's not really my style, but I love the idea of wearing a piece that belonged to her. The face itself isn't so in-your-face, but it's covered by a hinged top surrounded by diamonds with an emerald in the center. This on top of being so gold…it's a bit much for me (I generally only wear pearl earrings on a daily basis and prefer understated styles).

I’ve thought about selling it (not that I even know what I’d get for it), but I don’t really want to. Do you think it’s too much for a daily watch? Can the top be removed so it’s not so blingy? Does anyone know the history or quality of Faberge watches?

Thanks for any responses!

I think it might be a little hard to pull off for daily wear, but I would definitely save it for special occasions/holidays. Just wondering, is your watch this one? http://timerecs.com/inf/29958-14k_yellow_gold_watch_by_igor_carl_faberge_diamond_emerald_lim_ed.html

I think since you say you are minimal with the rest of your jewelry, you could wear this every day. I think it's a beautiful piece if it is one of christofle s links!

Yep, that's it! Great detective work!

Thanks for the compliment! I'll try a test run wearing it for regular life, though I'll probably end up saving it for special occasions. We'll see. I'm curious if I'll feel comfortable having it on my arm, though I like the idea of a piece that's not common anymore (or so I believe).

You mentioned that you don't really want to sell it, so go with your gut and hold onto it. I don't know how old you are, but in ten, twenty years your style may be very different and you may like it a lot more than you do now. I inherited a cocktail ring that, when I first saw it years ago when I was young, didn't think much of it. Now, forty years later I adore it, both for the style and the memories. You're right that the watch isn't an everyday one--imagine the annoyance of flipping that lid every time you need to check the time, but hopefully your future life will be filled with enough occasions that will be even more special because you're wearing your grandmother's watch. I think it's gorgeous!

I recommend you keep it and treat it like bling jewelry, not like it's a watch. It's the equivalent of a cocktail ring--something for fun, and showy. It's not really a daily watch. Whatever you do, don't alter it by trying to remove the cover.

If there's an occasion when you want to be blingy, this is your piece. Otherwise, if the sentiment is important, just keep it and admire it.:smile1:

It's a beautiful piece, and it's so nice to wear jewelry with some sentiment behind it. I love
when someone notices my jewelry , and I can tell them it belonged to my mother or grandmother. Enjoy it!

It's a stunning piece!
It's definately not an every day watch but a special occasion watch to wear at a theatre or at a wedding.

I also have many antique jewelry from my great grandmothers and they're very flashy rings, necklaces and even tiaras. They're more memory pieces but some of them I manage to wear for black tie events.

Keep the watch as your memory about your grandma and you'll always feel special when you wear it. You'll feel her love and energy.
