Champagne at Tiffanys
Had the most wonderful and happy experience yesterday at Tiffanys in London. After being together for nearly 23 years and married for 10 I finally got to choose the engagement ring of my dreams! I'm sorry this might take a while as I keep getting distracted by the ring
Here's the back story.
We started off by looking in a couple of our local jewellers one of them had some loose diamonds I could look at and they were around 1ct size, but something about them didn't grab me. They were all round brilliant, G-H colour and varied between vs2 and vs1 but they didn't sparkle, so I left them behind. He offered to get some more diamonds in for me to look at in the specs that I wanted. I'm more than happy to sacrifice size for sparkle and I was thinking about doing that. The next jeweller had a lovely stone in a pendant that he said we could have reset in a ring, that stone was .62pts again a G-H and a round brilliant, it was very nice and I was sorely tempted by that one, it more or less had the qualities that I wanted, but it was second hand and the jeweller couldn't tell me about the quality of the cut. I could tell the cut was better than the loose diamonds I'd seen, but something held me back. Also the jeweller advised us to go away and sleep on it. So I thought about it and thought about it and I'd been looking on the Tiffany website at engagement rings and although in the pictures online nothing truly grabbed me I felt like I wanted to go and see them for real. So I said to my DH I don't think I'll be happy till I've been to Tiffany. So DH said OK. So of we went to London yesterday and I don't know why but I was a little nervous.
So in we walk and after about a minute or 2 of browsing we are approached by a very lovely gentleman and asked if we need any help, I said that we looking for engagement rings and he took us to them and asked what we were looking for I said probably no more than a half carat and no less than a third of a carat ( I knew I wasn't going to get anywhere near a carat on our budget in Tiffany) so he starts by showing us the classic Tiffany setting which I didn't think I would like but I was pleasantly surprised, he showed us 3 rings in the range which we'd said all 3 were beautiful stones, ranging from a little over .30pts to just under .50pts. Whilst we were mulling over these he offers us some Champagne, Wasn't expecting that! He then showed me a ring with a centre stone and smaller ones down the sides which was beautiful but over our budget, I also tried the Tiffany Bezet which I had really liked online, but I felt the band didn't go with my wedding ring. And then he showed me the Tiffany Harmony (which I really didn't like in the pictures I'd seen online so had completely discounted looking at that one) and I almost said no to looking at it. However it was love at first sight
The stone sits nice and low the band is so comfortable and fits beautifully with my wedding ring and really it was a no brainer, but I was still looking at the classic Tiffany setting too and then he said think about which of these 2 you can see yourself wearing on a day to day basis and that was it I knew. After deciding which one it was going to be I then asked if I could look at it in the natural day light so he takes me to the window and he explains that they don't enhance the lighting in the store and that the stones generally look even better outside than they do in the store (whereas the stones I'd looked at locally had all gone a little flat once outside) He was right. He explained that all Tiffany diamonds are excellent cut and this is why. The stone in my ring does exactly what I was after and I couldn't be happier.
