This could very well work! Especially if you have the receipt to show that everything is legit.

Maybe you could do what one seller did and tell them they have to meet you in person so that you can sign it over. HUGE hassle....but at least you have a last resort.

Any time that I have had a credit anywhere, I can't recall them checking the name on it with my ID. Usually I owe a little more, and they are happy to make something on the sale.
