Hello girls (and boys!)! Hope everyone's well :)
A wee bit of advice required... Since culling my collection I've made a few more adjustments and have waved bye bye to a couple to make way for my beloved black Brooke - my original one went to M heaven long ago and I was devastated, she was my favourite Mulberry ever. But thanks to the lovely MM I have been reunited with a gorgeous example of Brookeness! Sooo happy :D
However, I no longer have my 'wardrobe' of M straps to play with, and I used to love wearing her messenger style. I do have a lovely strap whose leather and h/w are an excellent match - but it isn't Mulberry. Sooo....do you think it's ok to wear non M straps with M bags, or would you not go there? God, I obsess about the daftest things...glad I've got you lovely lot who understand! :D
xxxx

If you find a good quality understated strap then that is ok and breathes new life into a bag. I'd steer clear of cheap straps though.

I'm sure there is a thread here about where to buy messenger straps.

Also, it may not suit your style (or brooke) but a few girls tried using a vintage camera case strap as a messenger style strap, to give it that clashing, vintagey look! of course it may not be to your taste, but always an idea!

Absolutely! Thanks to klp a few of us have been able to order straps from a US *bay site and I recently got one for my mum's Somerset shoulder. It was that or her not wearing the bag at all!

So, a pretty unanimous thumbs up then! :D
Last week's scorching weather meant bare arms, and bare arms+leather bag with short strap do not a good combination make - mmm, deodorant dust on bag, anyone?! I need the messenger option for days like that.
Love the vintagey scarf option Fongchau and Sophie - I've tried it and love it in the safety of my bedroom, but feel as if the look 'wears me' iykwim and never wear it outside!
Klp (lovely to 'see' you btw!), you parted company with Brooke? I'm surprised, I thought you two had a special bond! Gosh, I'm so out of the loop, don't know who's got what or moved what on... Been trying not to come on here so often, soooo much temptation and we're not quite 'there' yet re spending on lovely lovely bags!
Anyway... Will use the strap I have, but if anyone hears of/sees a 'proper' black M one anywhere, pleeease let me know! Thanks lovelies xxx

Good to 'see' you too, TB!

Brooke went because I found her a tad too small for all the stuff I have to carry when I'm chasing after my little Miss M. However, I've just gotten a ginger Brooke! I think I'll use it strictly as a shoulder bag though and, besides, I doubt I could find a long strap that matches the ginger colour.

Hello TB!

I definately think its ok to use a non-mulberry strap! I use my black brooke the most when its worn messenger style with a non mulberry strap ;) Ive also got an effie that I plan to wear as a messenger with a non mulberry strap, and my mum has an oak brooke that she always wears messenger style with a nonmulberry strap.... go for it!:yahoo:

I find a lot of the Mulberry straps are nowhere near long enough or simply not adjustable so I'd have no trouble with the concept of attaching something better suited. It's a pity so many of the handle drops are so short as well, advertising the bayswater as a shoulder bag is nonsense for most people if worn over a coat.
