No more spare tassels..what do you put on your zips?

Opinions please! Been thinking about having the cobbler sew a line right down the tassel to keep them from splitting and make them stronger. Being it is a black bag I thought it might work! My 09 tassels have split after only a couple months of use and I am tired of trying to keep them glued!

Muggles............. Can't you buy more tassels from BalNY? If not, are you glueing them or are you having a shoemaker do it? Because, maybe a shoe repair would have stronger glue........JMO btw........:hugs:

I haven't bought anything from this guy on Bonanzle, but I've been tempted ... he has tons of tassels in a variety of colors. While they may not be 'exact', maybe he could dye it the same color?!?!

I've been wondering what I would do when my tassels on my new Poupre Day split and now I think I will get some extras, perhaps in a contrasting color for fun? Excellent suggestion, thanks! :yahoo:

Got extra ones from BalLv and they split just sitting on my dresser! Must be way to dry in my house! Never thought to ask the cobbler to glue them! I know he would do a better job!;)Thanks for mentioning that! My brain isn't always functioning!!:graucho: Hugs

Hi muggles, I'm sure it can be done. I've done it myself for the little tassel (I've finally spelt it correctly after three posts, sorry) in one of my RH bags, in matching thread.

Sewing tassels together before they start splitting is like a preventive - much like putting Topy soles on new leather soles.

Just make sure your cobbler does a little test run, as the leather on some tassels is incredibly soft, and the needle used for leather may cut through if the needle is not fine enough.

I imagine he'd glue the two tassels together before he sews them together, so that'd be all right.

Also, just check if your cobbler's machine will cope the tension required for such fine leather, to avoid ending up with some puckering down the sewn seam.

You may be better taking the bag to a leather specialist/bag-suitcase repairer - or someone who has a very fine leather needle, if your cobbler cannot help you.

Good luck!

I braided the tassels on my men's WE (maybe they are even french braided with an extra tassel added), then looped them into a circle. I think it looks good on a WE, not sure on a smaller bag. Or you could add different tassel for color. Also purchased a rouge theatre first with cut tassels, it came with extra tassels, but I haven't replaced them, don't really mind the cut tassels.
