I posted this in the "box shortage " thread a couple weeks ago but a chanel SA told me that as of January 2022, they are no longer giving out boxes with the handbags . She was told for "environmental reasons ". This was at Chanel Saks . She said they are telling all their clients now to lessen the shock later. I asked another SA at Chanel Nordstrom but she didn't hear anything about that yet.

I got the new one today with my 22C classic flap, tbh it doesn't feel very luxurious, it feels rather stiff and not soft. My SA told me they changed the material because this new material is more breathable than the old one and is also made of natural fibers which is eco-friendly, because Chanel is aiming to be more sustainable moving forward. I think it's BS but whatever lol.

Canada still has old fabric? Camelias. Came as a real shock to get paper Camelias when I was in the US. Did not know they changed the camelias. I miss the old linen ones.

I think cotton is better for the leather. When we bought our leather chairs they advised us to use cotton and especially not microfiber. They told me that microfiber might demage over years the leather.
And I like that that they start to use something which harms less the environment.
Some people are not aware that in case you wash something with artificial material that every time you wash it some microparticles go into the water...

If they’re saying this new dustbag is better for the leather, I hope they’ll be exchanging them for customers who want to swap out the old microfiber dustbags.

It is a fine line to walk as a brand - any mention from SAs of the old dustbags being “inferior” and I would be really upset (you sold me this 5, 6, 7, 8k+ handbag with a dustbag that will trap heat and damage the leather?!) if they didn’t offer to give me a new one.

That’s funny cause it’s recommended to use a microfiber cloth to clean leather not cotton. You can even google it. Is it not possible to remove the micro particles? Black waste goes into the same water and they clean that out to make recycled water.

I agree, if it’s better for the leather to breathe then they need to allow people to receive this one. I received the old dust bag. I’m going to contact my SA, I’m sure they won’t be helpful and emailing Chanel never seems to go anywhere. But I’m going to try. I will not be storing my bag in it even if I have to buy a generic brand cotton dust bag

I am very pleased to hear this.

Cotton, although it takes more resources to produce in the first place, is more breathable for leather (very important if you live in a humid place) doesn't hold as much dust and dirt and therefore don't need washing as much, doesn't shed plastic fibres that get into the water table and kill wildlife and is easily recyclable and biodegradable. Good for Chanel.

You can buy a micro-fibre cloth at at the dollar stores if you need to, but there are also fleece cotton alternatives usually made from recycled material.
