Next purchase advice: 20-motif YG MoP or YG Pave Alhambra Earrings?

Hi VCA lovers !! I could use your advice on my next VCA purchase I’m planning to make in the next few months. What would you suggest between the 20-motif YG MoP or YG Pave Alhambra Earrings? Originally, the YG Pave Alhambra earrings were #1 on my list because I wear the pendant daily, and there’s also a fear (irrational) they will be discontinued. However, the 20-motif would round out my collection more and creates flexibility.

I would go for the 20 motif YG MOP cause you manly have earrings in your collection and I feel like you are missing something that would compliment them with certain outfits and occasions.

I’m painfully practical and not a collector. But if in your heart you feel like you need that 20 because you would wear it and it is a piece you would get anyway, even if you don’t get it this time around, then get the 20 now. It is the more expensive piece right? But if you got it just to have it and would not wear it much than I would take it off my list completely. Are you a long necklace person? I’m guessing you are because you would not even consider it otherwise.

Are you sure you will wear and enjoy a 20 ? What about other mop necklaces? Long magic, 10 motif, vintage sized, 6 motif etc. yellow gold with mop has a lot of choices so maybe try out a few different styles to see what you will wear and enjoy

Reading the title I would have thought : easy … the paved earrings. Cannot be wrong and they are so easy to wear. But then I see you collection and of course would be logical to get necklace (or bracelet or ring but as you asked to choose between these two …). You have to follow your heart. I am sure you can wear the heck out of the pave earrings. They won’t discontinue them but at the moment you can’t order them if I am right … if you prefer a necklace to be logical then I would have chosen a 10 motif YG guilloché (same budget as earrings). Or the 20 motif alternative pave and YG guilloché but of course the budget is wayyyyy more 🥹. For durability I don’t recommend WMOP (my GMOP bracelet was a bit dull in 1 year) 20 motif but again if your heart sings to that piece then you will get over it

Yes, I do like long necklaces.i think I would wear it frequently since it’s easy to take on and off (vs my pendant). I think out of all the VCA necklaces, the only one I would get is a 20-motif since it’s more versatile than the 10 and I don’t think I need another pendant.

One tidbit I would mention; I find that WMOP is much more durable compared to GMOP. I have GMOP pieces that are totally fine (and I have even run in them, but don’t wear perfume or shower in them). However, a friend’s GMOP bracelet was totally discolored from what she said was just normal use. On the other hand, I have not seen issues with WMOP, unless it was worn in the shower on a regular basis or worn with perfume etc. Necklaces generally hold up better compared to bracelets anyway, IMO.
OP, I love the ease of a 20 motif! Just throw it over your head and you are out the door!

Do you think it happened because it was subjected to water or lotions? I do love the way the 20-motif looks on me and the versatility it would bring to my collection - which is why I question whether I should get it first despite my heart being set on the pave earrings. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Do you think the guilloche and pave earrings are too similar / duplicative?

I’m inching that much closer to the 20- motif I just had my heart set on the pave earrings - I need to accept the delay since I’ll more than likely get them the following year …. You’ve been so helpful, and I really appreciate it !!!

You are welcome! I have gone through an evolution in my jewelry collection, so I can relate to you being ready to branch out. I started off in my 20s buying mostly antique diamond rings, so when I started collecting more designer pieces I first added mostly sets of various VCA earrings (because I was a ring and earring person at the time), so I can relate to your earring collection. Next, I started buying 20 motifs, and since then I have branched out to other categories!
I don’t have a 20 motif WMOP, but I love the ease of my 20 motifs. I do have VCA earrings in many different formats though, and even though repetitive, I do find both my YG pave VA and WG pave VA to be extremely useful, mostly because when I go on vacation I can take these two earrings and a couple of necklaces, along whatever bracelets I’m already wearing, and that’s enough to see me through the trip.
I do have a little crossover in my collection, and so other earrings do not end up being worn.
I think you may have crossover on your YG guilloche and the YG pave earrings. If you are like me, you will wear your Pave earrings a lot, but then you will probably wear your guilloche earrings less. Whereas the 20 motif fills a hole in your collection.
I don’t think there is a right or wrong here, but one thing to consider is that with the WMOP you could look for a certain coloration or iridescence in the stone that you find especially appealing, and that could be your sign to jump on the 20 motif when you find that special piece. The Pave will always be the same from piece to piece.

ETA:
I also have your YG Frivole small earrings and I find that the cross over is less for this pair with YG guilloche and YG pave, but it also means that adding the YG pave earrings will mean that something you already have will be worn less or perhaps put to the back of the jewelry case.

They are not duplicative in my opinion (I have both - only i have pave in RG ) : pave are lighter and easier to wear and I love the diamonds quality and look in the clover with Alhambra … guilloché are somewhat surprisingly « brighter » because of the light reflecting and yellow sun looking
As @EpiFanatic said : if you are quite sure to get both at some time then buy the most expensive now … you’ll save money of price increases.
PS for my GMOP : no I don’t think I had anything special : I was extremely cautious with the bracelet. Maybe a drop of water splurged when washing hands but really nothing special. I didn’t use lotion and remove it when I come back home so no shower. I don’t live in a hot country. It doesn’t look badly dull. Just visibly not like it was when I bought it. I love it really a lot as it was my first purchase in boutique. So don’t bother and wear it 😘
