Hi all,

I'm so very torn right now. I'm deciding on my next jewelry purchase, which will also be my belated present for my birthday, wedding anniversary, mother's day and Christmas.
I have a budget for only one thing under a 1,000 Euro. So this whole time I was certain I wanted Cartier d'amour in XS, because I don't have any necklace of this kind.
Since yesterday though, I can't get RTT beaded heart tag necklace out of my head. I have matching bracelet in silver, and thought how awesome would it be to have a set ( want to get matching studs preloved later as well).
Currently I don't have a set of anything. I'm wearing these pieces 24/7: Cartier love cuff in yg, RTT heart tag necklace in yg, and I switch earrings (non designer). Rings are not my thing, so those are constant- my wedding rings and a diamond 3 stone ring on my right hand.

I absolutely love RTT collection, and although I'm 42 with 2 teens I'm totally rocking my gold heart tag necklace lol.

My thoughts are: I should get the Cartier necklace, because I don't own any diamond necklaces, and it'd be Cartier, plus it'll probably increase in price with the next increase. And I only own one Cartier piece.
OR: I can get the beaded necklace, and have a set with my bracelet ( still wearing my yg cuff), have more statementy necklace and then have a gold and a silver RTT pieces to switch up once in a while.

Also, I'm not someone who changes jewelry. I wear the same pieces for months. Sometimes years.....

What are your thoughts?

Thanks!!!

I think the Cartier will hold it's value more as you can currently find pre-owned Tiffany for less online. If you've had your heart set on the Cartier, I suggest getting it before price increase as i suspect it will be easier for you to pick up the RTT later on at a discounted price if buy pre-loved.

Another alternative to consider....if you really just want a diamond solitaire necklace and don't care so much about name brand (this may or may not be the case), you can probably get more bang for your buck if you purchase an unbranded one from a local jeweler or even a reputable online jeweler. Just a thought.

That's what's holding me back about diamond solitaire from a luxury brand- there are so many of them out there either locally or from places like Mejuri for much less.
I don't know, since I have to save up for a long time for a piece from a luxury house, I want it to be recognizable piece...
Damour XS is in my price range right now ( or beaded necklace) and I have appointments next week at both Cartier and Tiffany....I need to cancel one of then once I make up my mind....

Why not keep both appointments and go try them both on to see how you feel and help make your decision?

Mainly because it's in a different city...and I don't want to disappoint my SA at Tiffany if I dont buy....she's wonderful, cartier SA that helped me with my cuff was extremely meh, so I made an appointment there online in hopes to avoid him lol.

That's sweet of you and I'm sure appreciated but SA are there to cater to buyers/prospective buyers, not really the other way around. You should do whatever ensures you end up with the piece you love most and is right for you at this time, especially since you've been saving up for it. I'm sure if you politely explain you're considering a couple of pieces, the SA will understand. Not everyone buys every single thing they look at and they can't take it personally. But totally upto you.

I highly recommend that you go try both on. You really won't know how you feel wearing them until you do so.

While is kind and considerate to think about your Tiffany SA, I believe that as long as she understands your intentions, you will not be disappointing her or hurting her feelings. Retail is a tough business and if not making 1 sale is enough to disappoint her, then it is probably not for her.
SA's make sales and do not make sales all the time. It happens. What an SA doesn't like is if a client wastes his or her time repeatedly.
I think that going in to try on something for the first time and not making the purchase right there and then is perfectly understandable if: 1) You realize it is not for you or 2) You need more time to think about it.
As long as you communicate with her appropriately I don't think she will be disappointed with you.

I am very direct with my SAs' on my intention to buy or not to buy when I go into the store that day. I will also be very clear on how certain I am about buying something and if I need time or not or how long to hold an item for me. I think they appreciate that because I communicate my decision-making thought process to them so they're not left in the dark waiting for me, or getting confused or irritated if I come to the store over and over again but not make a purchase.

Regarding which piece to buy:

Personally I would not think about the retail or resale value of luxury items. Price increases will happen until the end of time but that does not dictate their true worth in materials. All of them are at premium prices aka over-priced. As long as it is what you want and makes it worth it to buy is what should matter for you.
I am also a person who does not change up my jewelry pieces. I have a Tiffany DBTY solitaire that I wear 24/7 (shower, sleep, etc.) and I love it and would not have it any other way. I think I've had it since 2018? It's still looks great!

They are both pretty different pieces so a bit of tricky decisions. Granted both are timeless and classic. Any diamond solitaire necklace is a forever piece and the beaded RTT pieces are classic to the house of Tiffany and will probably always be there.
And sorry for the RTT beaded heart tag necklace that you're interested in, did you want it in silver or gold?

Thank you for your help! Tiffany necklace would be silver, to go with my silver RTT beaded bracelet that I already have. I have yellow gold one, just the heart tag on a chain, so I thought I could build a set in silver with beaded pieces...

I feel that you think you "should" buy the Cartier necklace because it is Cartier. As others have pointed out, it is overpriced based on the materials in it so you'd be paying mostly for the word Cartier engraved on it which may or may not be of importance to you.

To me, you sound much more animated when you talk about the Tiffany jewellery.

Saving up is really hard these days so the item you purchase must be right for you; again, as others have said, forget resale value. This is an investment in yourself, which is far more important, not in semi-precious or precious metals.

As always, it's best to try them on......1,000 Euro is still a lot of money and must be spent wisely on jewellery that makes you happy to wear it endlessly.

Good luck and let us know which you choose!

I would not buy either one. They are both grossly overpriced and nothing special. People buy jewelry for different reasons— beauty, personal expression or, in your case (by your own admission) to try to impress other people. “I have to save up for a long time for a piece from a luxury house, I want it to be recognizable piece...”

Ask yourself why it is so important for others to recognize which brand of jewelry you are wearing. The need to fit in? The need to appear affluent?

I am not a fan of matching sets of jewelry, so I would vote against the Tiffany piece. The Cartier necklace looks very generic. You could buy a CZ on an 18K chain and it would look and perform the same (I know a centimillionaire who freely admits she wears faux jewelry—she does not need to impress anyone). My advice is if you are at all indecisive, you should pass. Your gut is telling you something.

Maybe you are right. I don't want to impress anyone, I just want to have the experience of going into a boutique and buying myself something nice, that I saved up for.
My husband is not a gift giver Unfortunately. So if I want something decent I need to buy it myself.
The kids are on vacation right now so I thought I'd take them out shopping and get myself something too. I have limited budget hence those 2 choices...

I think you should buy whichever makes you happy and will make you happy to wear....Whether that's a piece that matches, has a name brand, doesn't have a name brand but a design you love. Enjoy the experience and try on those items or anything else you find in your budget. Let us know what you decide

I agree with everyone’s advice—you really do need to go try on both pieces to see how you feel. Choose what makes your heart sing.

That being said, I personally find the Cartier D’Amour in the XS size way too small if you plan on wearing it alone. Yes, it has the beautiful sparkly chain, but the diamond is teeny tiny. I think it would be worth going with size small, the chain is thicker and the diamond is double the size.

So the Tiffany will definitely have much more of a presence if that’s a deciding factor. Good luck deciding and let us know what you choose!

Well, Cartier is for now off the table. Because of family circumstances, I have now other issues that need to be taken care of on Monday , therefore I had to unfortunately cancel my appointment at the boutique:sad:
One of the other items I had in mind, was DBTY necklace in einer. 03 rg or .05 yg....maybe I'll try one of these on or even DBTY bracelet to stack with my love cuff..
I'll update next week....
