hello.
I havent been on the purse forum in over 15 years. i actuallyhad to create a new account because i couldnt remember anything from my user info.
I just received as an early 50th Birthday gift from my family the neverfull damier ebene mm bag. Since i was in my early 20s, ive always dreamed of owning an LV bag. my family and i were on vacation in California and my husband took me to the Louis Vuitton store on Rodeo Drive. It was amazing. atruly memorable moment.

Ive heard so much about taking care of/treating the vachetta leather on the monogram and DA but not much on the leather of the DE. Would you recommend treating the leather straps and trim on my DE Neverfull? ive heard horror stories about cracking, peeling and chipping of the leather on the Damier Ebene. Should I use a leather conditioner? Any and all advice is very much appreciated.
i love this bag so much. We had such a wonderful trip and this bag has such sentimentel value to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read and to answer.

I honestly wouldn't go out of my way to treat the leather as the leather used for the DE supposed to be the most durable & stain resistant in comparison to the vachetta. I've had my Neverfull in monogram/vachetta for 11 years and there's no cracking/chipping/ of the leather, and I didn't baby it at all. With that said, the leather should be substantial to withstand some use and abuse over the years without having problems, if it does, you're better off to get it repair or exchange.

I own multiple bags in Damier ebene. Now have ever cracked, including my Neverfull. I don’t cinch the sides, maybe that makes a small difference?

I know the Damier ebene leather treated staps are prone to cracking and/or peeling and I have accepted that it may happen. If and when it does I will look into replacing the straps.

I just use my bags (in most weather) and enjoy them. I hope you do too!

*I don’t use any of them in single digit freezing weather or 95 humid hot weather....

you're right. its best to leave it alone. i guess I've been hearing and seeing so much about treating the leather that i feel like I should do something. I'm so glad to hear your bags are great after so much time. thank you.

Good point. I wasn’t planning on cinching the sides anyway. I think the MM looks small when cinched. I have noticed very faint wrinkles which I expected. As long as they don’t becomes cracks, I’m ok with it. I’m not planning on using during extreme weather either. Thanks
