I have been loyal to Louis Vuitton my entire adult life but I feel like I have all the classic pieces I want and it’s time to move onto a new brand. I am struggling a bit to justify the prices of Chanel but it’s a classic brand that I’ve always loved so I’m ready to start the search. I live in a smaller city with no Chanel store. I’ll be in Vegas in February so can definitely visit stores then but what are the odds they will have a classic (thinking the mini rectangular, black with silver hardware) in stock the weekend I go? Any tips or tricks? Do any SAs allow purchases over the phone? I love the simplicity of shopping online but it doesn’t seem possible with Chanel from what I’m seeing.

Yes, you can purchase over the phone, but you cannot have items shipped to you unless you have a profile with them which you will get if you purchase in-person once. They also have policies set up to deter resellers by refusing to ship to states with no sales tax.
Also, I heard classic bags cannot be shipped unless also purchased once in person before.
Very unlikely that a boutique will have a black mini rectangular floating in the store. Usually people are placed on a waitlist for one. I recommend department stores as their waitlists are usually shorter. If you have in person purchase history in a Chanel boutique, you can place your order over the phone and have the item shipped to you (except tax-free states) from anywhere in the US.
I dipped my toes in Chanel recently and I have a few suggestions. Is there anything else besides the mini that you would like to buy such as a SLG, Costume jewelry, or a bandeau? Buy one small thing when you visit the Chanel store. Like PP said I highly doubt you will be able to walk in and buy a mini. If you buy something, your profile is created and then you can ask the SA to place you on the waiting list. You will be able to place any order after that over the phone once you go home. Maybe you will change your mind and want a classic flap instead? This is exactly what happened to me. I was thinking of buying a WOC or mini and ended up buying a jumbo instead after trying in the store.
I would also suggest to try ALL sizes of Chanel bags if they are available. Even after reading reviews, forums, watching YT videos, you will be surprised what works for you the best!

I appreciate the advice! I wonder if technically I have a profile since I’ve bought makeup online through their site?!? I will have to think about other sizes and options - I wanted to start with a mini simply due to price so I can see how they wear, how often I use it, and if this is a brand I want to stick with. I will definitely try on different options though to see if I gravitate towards something larger. Here is hoping the blackjack tables are kind to me, too, so I don’t feel guilty about a splurge

Technically yes you have a profile by buying something online. My friend did this and was able to purchase by phone at Neiman’s. Yup, I just texted with an SA in Vegas who confirmed I need to purchase something in a boutique to be eligible to purchase via phone. He also said they aren’t doing wait lists anymore for the rectangular mini and it’s first come first serve so guess I will just see what they have when I visit Vegas in February!
If you don't get you min-rec-shw, there are shoes and O'Case that might be of interest to you. Also, you might find a seasonal bag that might tickle your fancy.
If there is no waitlist, I would still suggest to buy something you really like and will use to create a Chanel profile. Once you have a profile, you can snag a mini as soon as it comes in stock. I have seen a few pop up in the boutique stocks thread under Chanel Shopping sub forum. If you have a profile, you can easily get it. Good luck!
