Hi all! I've always admired Bal bags but have never researched or even handled them (not available anywhere near where I live). Earlier today I was looking for a new bag for travel and ended up impulse buying a Velo from Yoogi's.

Here's the thing. The bag from Yoogi's was advertised and pictured as "dark red". I've since done some more looking and this bag is coquelicot, which (according to all other pictures) is a much brighter, tomato red than what I'd be interested in. I can't find any pics that show it as dark as Yoogi's did.

So... that led to a second impulse buy, in case the first didn't work out - a gris poivre from Fashionphile. This one is agneau where the other is chèvre.

Obviously I don't have either in my hands yet, but does anyone have any input on the true shade of the coquelicot color and/or can you tell me whether chèvre or agneau would be better for travel and things like stuffing under an airline seat? Any other advice for this ignorant (and impulsive) newbie is welcomed too!

I asked a friend of mine regarding the velo and there was a colour like that in S/S 2014, rouge brique, bordeaux? Not sure, but there was no coquelicot that year. I think you can expect the colour to match the pics on Yoogi's, they're generally very good. The general consensus seems to be that chevre is a more durable leather but I've thrown around my agneau bags and they've survived quite well.

Thank you! Yoogi's says it's 2012 so I guess I'll see when it gets here!

Ahhh I was looking at the ME one sorry. Do you have a link?

Never mind, I found it. Looks like it's the Bordeaux from the S/S 2012 holiday collection. Can anyone else verify that?

Here's a pic of my 2011 coquelicot First. Not even close in colour.

Thanks again! Bordeaux would be great!

Love your First! Coquelicot is a gorgeous color but not what I'm looking for with this bag.

Off to learn how to read Bal tags... [emoji4]

it should be the Hamilton leather Bordeaux for that Yoogies's Velo. I almost wanted to get that but i am not sure whether i can carry Velo style. So you have bought it. Glad it went to someone on TPF.
I've often wondered about the Velo. Especially one in Hamilton...

Well they're both here and the Velo style is perfect. They're both in amazing condition. But, to my own great surprise, I don't love the Bordeaux color. It's a little too purple for me. I can see how that leather would be really tough - so I'm torn on keeping it. OTOH, I'm head over heels for the Gris Poivre. It's so gorgeous with the rose gold, and so soft. Not near as dry as it looks in the pic. It's not tough enough for what I was wanting, but it's going to be impossible to part with!!

I love the Bordeaux color, it's one of my favorites (i have two cassis bags that's how much I wine colors.) But if you're having doubts, return it. Too expensive not to love right away.
The Gris Poivre with the rggh is lovely too.

the Gris.. more versatile color and that leather looks so soft and amazing already!

Congrats on getting your first Bbag (or Bbags). Both are so pretty and in great condition. But if you are not in love with the Bordeaux, perhaps you should return it and look for another Hamilton in a different color. And the other one is probably tougher than you think so maybe use that one as your travel bag on a trial basis and see see how it goes. Good luck deciding.

Great GP Velo
Despite having a soft spot for wine and bordeaux shades i can totally see why you don't like it.
Bal had had a lot of colours in various shades, you'll find YOURS later, don't settle and compromise for something that doesn't spark joy ;)
