I noticed that on the Cartier site recently so I think it’s new (?).

I haven’t seen it in real life, but I don’t think I’m a fan of such a seemingly heavy and stiff necklace.

Yes, I definitely think it's new. Personally and in the absence of seeing what it looks like in a person, I like it. Maybe because I really like the structure of the JUC necklace.
